MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Nelia Card

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.
Grade Level: 3rd
Content Area: Social Studies
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list) : Movie and
Audio
Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:
SS3H2 The student will discuss the lives of Americans who expanded peoples rights and freedoms in a
democracy.
a. Paul Revere (independence)
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will
students and teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What
audience will use/care about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this
audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students
about their work? The historical figure Paul Revere will be introduced before watching the video. The students will watch
the video and then, as a class, we will discuss facts about Paul Revere learned/seen in the video. It will take one class period to
complete after initial learning of the historical figure. The audience for this video is very broad and can be used in many different
settings. The students will receive immediate feedback on their work as it will be combined on a chart that is used in the class
group setting.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Which indicators of Engaged Learning are strong and why? This lesson uses a LoTi level 2, because the
technology is being used as a tool to serve as a supplement to existing instruction. The indicators of Engaged Learning that are
strong are social interactions because students must collaboratively use their combined knowledge to come up with as many facts
to be used in the chart.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience? This project could be completed
without the multimedia tools, but the video adds an exciting way of learning to the lesson. Videos are fun for students and can
encourage the students to be more engaged in the lesson. It would also help the students that learn better visually.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others. Windows Movie Maker was used and credits can be seen at the end of the video.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy. It is extremely important that the instructor make sure that the
video is age appropriate for the students. The lesson should be copyright (fair use), the internet sites used to make the video
should be safe, and the instructor needs to insure student privacy. The teacher needs to make sure the students and the students
parents are okay with the their work being shown on the internet/blog for others to see.
