Becoming Evil
The monster was created by Victor Frankenstein who was so inspired but, after his
creation he had second thoughts. The monster was created, but he was looked as evil because of
his appearance. Also, the monster was trying to live a normal life by adapting to the humans. The
villagers were the ones who made him a monster. They were not giving him a chance. He was
chased and was almost killed. People shouldnt be so cruel because the way a person looks, they
should understand and get to know them before judgment. In the novel Frankenstein, the monster
is distinguished as evil because of his appearance, but in reality its the villagers who are evil for
not understanding him and thinking he will kill.
During the creation of the monster, Victor was so excited when he was putting his
creation together. When he was on his last steps the monster came to life, but the monsters
appearances made him think differently. "But now that I was finished, the beauty of the dream
vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart unable to endure the aspect of being I
had created." Dr. Frankenstein said. He was horrified by what he had done and he panicked that
if the monster would harm others. Dr. Frankenstien started having dreams about his dead mother
and of his wife dying. He locked himself in a room and didnt come out until the next day. The
monster was already gone by that time. The article Frankenstein by Terry W. Thompson it is said
that "its an allusion from father and son". Dr. Frankenstein should have gave the monster a
chance, and as his creator, he should have understood that he wouldnt know anything. He

shouldnt be so cruel instead he should be proud that he created something nobody else has done.
Also, instead of looking at him as an ugly person and thinking he will kill. Dr. Frankenstein
should have taught him to become and good person and live like others. Treated him as a son and
provide him with food and a home instead of running in horror. The monster would have been
differently he would have known how to be human and how to survive. Also, the monster was
treated badly by Victor his own creator. Now how would the villagers treat him not knowing who
he is?
While the monster was walking with nowhere to go or no sense in how to survive. He
was kicked out by villagers who were disgusted by his appearance. Children and women
screamed their lungs out in horror thinking he was going to harm them. The biggest fear of most
people, especially the religious, is the "Playing God" factor. (Steven Earl Forry). The villagers
feared that he would hurt people since he didnt look human. The villagers didnt understand, the
monster was trying to survive. He didnt not know how to live a normal life since he was created
not born. It is said that man should not interfere with creating life, something only God may
do. (Steven Earl Forry). I disagree with Forry because if he was created beautiful the villagers
would have not tormented the monster. Everywhere the monster entered, he was looked as a
killer because he didnt look like a normal human being. The judgment people have is so
ridiculous. Not everyone is going to look the same and because someone is ugly doesnt mean he
is a killer. The monster was a good hearted creature. He even saved a little girl from drowning,
but the father was ready to kill him. If he was so called "evil" he would have let the girl drown.
Right there the villagers should have had a different mindset. They should have seen that he was
harmless. The monster should have gotten a chance instead of being chased by everyone. He
needed closer he was already abandoned by his creator. The monster had to learn how to read

and speak by observing others. He lived in a cottage where he learned to be human. Also, he was
like a new born baby had to be taught first. He was never evil. He was just a hideous creator, but
with good intentions. The monster wanted people to give him a chance to let him show how he is
not evil.
Furthermore, after all the people screaming and being so scared of him. The monster had
enough, he couldnt take being criticized by the villagers no more. It was never his fault and his
decision to be created hideous. Also his intentions were never to harm a person, but he couldn't
take it no more. Essentially, Shelley seems to be saying that we society get the monsters we
deserve. (Shoomp Editorial Team). In that case, since the villagers couldnt accept the way he
was, so he was going to start doing what they believe he was going to do. By neglecting and
shunning people with socially unacceptable appearances or behaviors, we create mass
murderers. (Shoomp Editorial Team). A murderer was created by being out casted by society.
One day when he was out he spotted a boy, the boy was Victors brother, and for revenge he
killed him. He was angry at his creator Dr. Frankenstein for leaving him. Unfortunately, Dr.
Frankenstein had to live with the death of his brother. Also the monster thought thats how he
would feel better about himself and his creator would feel what he felt. Throughout all the harm
the villagers did they create a monster. By shooting him out and not trying to help him they
created the killer. They are the true monster for criticizing someone because of their appearance.
We people create what we believe is acceptable but in reality we are just creating evil and
harming people. Not accepting someone by their looks and thinking they will harm is wrong.
Because we can see how they truly feel and what good intentions they have. For example, the
monster was a good hearted, loving person. They just thought he was going to kill and now he
will cause of how they destroyed him. The monster was hurt and didnt know if that was the right

Duran4

thing to do. It seemed like it was since they were trying to hurt him. After Victor heard about the
news he seek to find the monster, though he was afraid that he was going to harm him. He
succeeded and the monster told him about how he had to survive and why he killed his brother.
In other words, the monster knew no one can love him since not even his creator could accept
him. He wanted love and compassion from some else. When the monster describes himself, it's
all sunshine and light. He has visions of amiable and lovely creatures keeping him company
(Shoomp Editorial Team). The monster then told Victor Frankenstein that he wanted a girl
companion. He knew that no one was going to love or be around him looking like that. Who
would love something hideous he wondered. When Dr. Frankenstein refused the monster got
anger and threaten to kill his family. Dr. Frankenstein had no other choice but to create a girl
monster, but had second thoughts and threw the body. His wife and friend were killed.
If the monster was never threatened the way he was then Dr. Frankensteins family
would have still been alive. The monsters intentions were never to harm a human being. He was
trying to survive and be one himself. But instead he was looked as an outcast and was chased by
the villagers. The villagers and Victor were the ones who created a monster. They hurt him and
let him die on his own. They were the true monsters. People shouldnt be so cruel when someone
is just trying to live their own life. Also appearance doesnt matter because the monster was
good. The villagers never saw something so hideous, so there first intention was that he was
going to kill. That was never the case because he would have done it in the beginning. He was
never a bad person. Peoples mindset are to believe that a true killer is hideous how the monster
in Frankenstein is, but they were the true killers.
