The Little Plastic that Poses a Big Threat

Although drinking out of plastic bottles is very convenient, the use of

plastic bottles should be banished from the United States because they
are creating an environmental problem.

Initiating Sustainable Behavior: Feel Good for Doing Good. Electronic Green
Journal, 1(37), 1-12.
b) A study was conducted at a University workout center, which
focused on whether putting up educational signs, or rewarding
students for recycling bottles actually improved recycling efforts.
c) Well I would have to agree with this source as it is a peerreviewed journal and the sources are very credible. The sources
are professors of different universities. I have to agree with this
source as it is on my side of my argument to ban the use of
water bottles.
d) I plan to use statistics and quotes of how much plastic is in our
oceans and also how much plastic the United States uses. Also
there is great information on how we dont even recycle the
plastic bottles like we should be so thats another incentive on
why we need to stop using plastic bottles.
2. a) Benedict, R. A., & Billeter, M. C. (2004). Discarded Bottles as a Cause of
Mortality in Small Vertebrates. Southeastern Naturalist, 3(2), 371-377.
b) A study was conducted by Benedict and Billeter in which they walked
different roads and highways and counted how many bottles were found
with remains of small mammals.
c) I would have to completely agree with this peer-reviewed journal. This
source is great for my argument that not only is plastic bottles affecting our
environment but they are also killing animals.
d) For this article, I want to use the study they conducted and describe
how animals actually get killed by crawling into a bottle. There is also
numbers and statists of the number of small mammals that die in plastic
bottles. I can also use statistics of how many plastics bottles are
abandoned on roads and highways, which is great for an environmental

argument.

3. a) PLASTIC BOTTLES RECYCLED INTO GREEN ROOFS. (2015). Advanced

Materials & Processes, 173(1), 9.
b) In this academic article, David Salla gives an example of how people do
use plastic bottles for a good use such as to build rooftops.
c) Well I would have to say that I agree with the source that we should use
plastic bottles for alternative matters but I still think we need to eliminate
plastic bottles regardless. I think the negatives outweigh the benefits and I
need more than rooftops.
d) I want to use this whole example of the use of plastic bottles to build
rooftops as a possible counter argument that my opposing audience could
say. I have to take into consideration opposing views.
4. a) Knopper, M. (2008). Bottled Water BACKLASH. E: The Environmental
Magazine, 19(3), 36-39.
b) In this article, Melissa Knopper is stating that we should not be drinking
water bottles but tap water instead and urges us to drink our local tap
water instead of buying and drinking water bottles that are not as healthy
or clean as we think.
c) There are some parts I agree with this article. I agree that we should not
be spending money on buying plastic bottles that end up in landfills. The
article gives great examples of places, which are banning and protesting
against the use of water bottles. The author also states that we should not
even use reusable water bottles because the plastic can still be unhealthy.
I have to disagree with this as I am a good example of using a ratable
water bottle everyday to drink my water.
d) For this article, I will be using statistics and data talking about the
effects of water bottles. Also, I want to give examples from this article of
places such as Canada that are outlawing the use of plastic bottles.
