GLOBE WETLANDS PROJECT

Position Announcement

Project Assistant
(Rice research / Administrative management)
The German government-funded research project Wetlands in East Africa
reconciling future food production with environmental protection (GlobE-Wetlands)
seeks a qualified project assistant based at Ifakara, Tanzania for an initial period of
three years.
The project team is composed of German and Tanzanian PhD and MSc students in
the fields of geography, soil science, agronomy, hydrology, economics and public
health. Team members conduct research on rice-based cropping systems and their
implications for food security and ecosystem services through regional surveys and
field agronomic experimentation.
Terms of reference:
1. Manage and supervise a large-scale central field experiment
Crop management
Treatment application
Support in sample taking
Field data collection
2. Provide administrative back-stopping and support to the students
Logistic arrangement
Payment of field labour, rent and transportation
Financial administration
The Project Assistant reports to the central coordination office in the University of
Dar-es-Salaam

Requirements

Bachelor or Master degree in Agricultural Sciences / Resources Management.


Experience in rice research and or field trial management
Fluency in spoken and written English language
Computer skills
Project management skills
Inter-cultural and inter-disciplinary communication competences
Driving licence desired

Remuneration: monthly on a competitive salary basis (adjusted to qualification and


experience).
