of Journalism, 2004. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 7 May 2015.
This article discusses the unequal balance with race within the media, journalism.
It is an article I found on the CSUN library website on Opposing Viewpoints
which allows me to think it is acetated. This article will help me in my essay show
how others in the media have also faced racial discrimination.
Holmes, Anna. "White Until Proven Black: Imagining Race in Hunger Games - The New
Yorker." The New Yorker. 30 Mar. 2012. Web. 14 Apr. 2015.
This article discusses racism within society, after fans watched The Hunger
Games movies their true colors showed. Although the book clearly describes
Rues character, fans had thought a black girl should have not played Rue. I found
this on Google by looking up whitewashing the hunger games trilogy. It is an

acetated article from The New Yorker allowing me to believe it is trustworthy to
use. This article will help me show how the media can influence racism. Society
tends to look at the characters personality rather than a clear physical description.
Monroe, Irene. "The Hunger Games' Young Racist Fans." Windy City Times: 16. Apr 18
2012. ProQuest. Web. 21 Apr. 2015 .
This article talks about how characters Rue, Thresh, and Cinna were played by
African-Americans in the movies, in the books Rue and Thresh were specifically
described to have dark skin but Cinna did not specifically have a skin type. The
article also talks about the racist comments made by fans as well as direct
comments from Suzanne Collins about how her books are based many years down
the line and races have mixed. I found this article on the school library site and I
typed the hunger games and racism into one-search. Seeing that it was
provided as an option on the library site allowed me to think it was trustworthy to
use. I will be able to use this article by showing my readers that even the author of
The Hunger Games claims that her characters can be biracial not strictly
Caucasian.
Stewart, Dodai. "A Character-By-Character Guide to Race in The Hunger Games."
Jezebel. Kinja, 26 Mar. 2012. Web. 13 Apr. 2015.
The article talks about the world in the future where there are biracial people in
The Hunger Games trilogy. Some characters are clearly described than others but
for characters like Rue and Thresh, it can be guessed that they are AfricanAmerican. I found this article through a class reading we were assigned to read in
class. It is an article with written facts to support claims, which allowed me to

trust it as a source. This article will be helpful for me in my essay because it
provides claims that others have made about racial representation. It also states
how Panem is a country post apocalyptic here races have mixed which supports
how characters like Katniss can be of many races, hinting at the olive skin tone.
