Phadlin Jean-Phillipe
Autobiography
My early life was not filled with many happy endings or beginnings for that
matter; many of them ended in hungry nights, eviction notices, and a plethora of
other problems a lot of financially troubled families face. I was raised in a single
mother household along with my four siblings. My mother was often forced to
work 96 hour shifts just to make ends meet. My father tried unsuccessfully to be a
part of my life. He was unable to be the father he wanted and attempted to portray.
My mothers struggles and fathers absence molded me as a person. My
father actually inspired me. Due to his shortcomings, I now know the type of man
and father I hope to be one day. Also as a result of his absence, I had to grow up at
a very young age. Although it was difficult, it taught me to be independent. I am
not sharing this with you to incite sympathy, but rather to reveal to you the fuel for
my ambition.
I share with you my drive to have a better life for not only myself but also
for my family. The goals I have for myself are to have a great job and to make

enough money to support myself and my family. Coming from a family who has
experienced poverty for a good portion of our lives, I strive for more than just our
financial stability. I want to better myself by expanding my knowledge of the
world. As a community, we cannot lift ourselves beyond poverty and injustice
until we work to disprove all stereotypes that my generation has acquired from past
generations. My immediate concern is for the wellbeing of my family; however,
my long term goals include working to elevate my entire community.
In September, I plan to enroll at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology.
I hope to study Auto Mechanics. After obtaining a college degree, I plan to pursue
several business ventures including the production and patent of several
technological ideas that I am currently developing. My enthusiasm for technology
first originated in my childhood where I would continuously take apart old pieces
of electrical equipment that were no longer needed. Through this exploration, I
know what I want to do in my life. The passion I have for the science and
mechanics involved with the creation of modern technology is the thriving force in
pursuing my future accomplishments. Technology is a vehicle for selfempowerment and change.
