Basically, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total worth (estimated in
currency values) of a nations production in a given year. This may include service sectors, research and development. That translates to a sum of all industrial production, work, sales, business and service sector activity in the country. Usually this is calculated over a period of one year, but there may be analysis per quarter (3 months). The trend of data will be used as economic forecast. GDP can also calculated on a per capita (per person) basis to give a relative example of the economic development of nations. In the other words, GDP is the market value of all final user goods and services produced domestically during a time period (a year or quarter). GDP is a measure of production it is designed to measure the output of goods and services produced in an economy. It measures the market value of the goods and services produced. The market prices paid for various items determine how much they will add to GDP. The major contribution of the GDP is the construction industry which is estimated about .%. Since the engineers are a part of construction player, they are indirectly contributed to the GDP. Besides that, the engineers (especially consultant) are usually preparing for future development which is involve application of knowledge of engineering. So, in this case, the engineers are contributed to the economy growth for the construction sector. Well in Malaysia, most of the infrastructure facilities are using the EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning) form of contract. In this form of contract, the engineers are being the head of the consultants. This is due to the engineers expertise in design of the infrastructure such as petroleum terminal, bridges, marine facilities and etc. Most important is the engineers in Malaysia are designing the structural part of all the building during the design stage. In fact, they are also measure the load of every single members of the building by using their specific knowledge of engineering.
