Reading Students will continue practicing
this week on providing concise written
statements which identify the main idea of
their current text. They will also practice
identifying the main idea of short reading
passages. Grammar exercises will include
identifying different types of sentences (such
as imperative, declarative, interrogative, and
exclamatory), as well as correctly identifying
the complete subject and predicate of
sentences. Students also have their spelling
assessment on Sunday and will be provided
with a new list of spelling words for the week.

Math
The students have begun unit
seven of their math program
which focuses on exponents and
negative numbers. This week they
will review terms such as base
and exponent, take terms written
in exponential notation and
change them to standard notation,
and recognize patterns when using exponential notation (such as
10 squared is 100 and 10 cubed
is 1000).
