Overall Goal of Lesson:


Students will be able to complete 2 by 1 addition problems with regrouping.
Instructional Objectives:
Students will be able to recall how to solve addition sentences without regrouping and apply it to regrouping.
Students will be able to show how to solve addition sentences with regrouping.
Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS:
111.4. Grade 2
4(D) generate and solve problem situations for a given
mathematical number sentence involving addition and
subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000
7(C) represent and solve addition and subtraction word
problems where unknowns may be any one of the terms
in the problem
Higher Order Questions:
How do you regroup with addition?
How do you regroup on paper using pencil and paper?

Key Vocabulary:
Regrouping to gather ten ones to make a group of ten or
gather ten tens to make one group of hundreds.

Student Activities:
Students will watch video on regrouping.
Students will work on problems using number cubes.
Students will have an activity around to room.
SPED Modifications/ELL Strategies
Students may use number cubes.
Students my use number chart or line.

Modeling:
The video shows problems with regrouping and using tens and ones cubes to solve them. Then the video
shows how to solve using pencil and paper. This is when they show how to carry over the one to the tens
place.

Students will be assessed on how well they use the strategies taught for regrouping when they work on
problems.
Student assessment will be done by checking the problems they solve around the room.
