American Revolution Newspaper Project


1. Revolutionary War Battle Story: This piece should be at least 500
words in length not including picture, caption, or title. Your
bibliography should have at least 2 academic sources (attached as a
second page). Choose one of the major battles of the Revolutionary
War and write a summary that includes:
Answers to the 5 W questions (who, what, when, where, why)
A description of the action
Key participants from the American and British side including
generals/leaders from each side and what their part was in the
outcome of the battle
Date and specific location of the battle
Who won the battle
Locate a photo and write a caption that will describe the battle (this
can be placed at the beginning, middle, or end of the written piece
this is a personal caption that the student comes up with

Which side the leader supported and why.
A summary of their major accomplishments leading up to the war,
during the war, and after the war had ended
A description of how their life ended
Locate a photo and write a caption that will describe the leader
this is a personal caption that the student comes up with
Why you choose this particular leader.

3. Unsung Hero Story: This piece should be at least 600 words in


length not including picture, caption, or title. Your bibliography should
have at least 2 academic sources (attached as a second page).
Choose an individual that played a key role during the American
Revolution that may not have received the attention they deserved.
Describe in detail their participation and who they worked with and
what they are remembered for.
Who were they (describe life, work, etc.)
What was their accomplishment in/for the war
How did this change affect the war at the time
How did their life end
Locate a photo and write a caption that will describe the leader
this is a personal caption that the student comes up with

4. Revolutionary War Facts: This piece should be at least 500 words


in length. Your bibliography should have at least 4 academic sources
(attached as a second page). You have, at this time, done significant
research into the topic of the American Revolutionary War. Choose 10
facts about the war that you have uncovered and ones that you think
others might find interesting. Your facts should be written in complete
sentences and should provide specific details that carefully describe
your selection. Make sure you title your article and then you may list
the facts in numerical, etc. order.
Choose a fact example: Ben Franklin wanted to make the Turkey
the National Bird of the United States of America.
Explain the fact example: name reasons why said fact is
interesting, in the above example I would reference the letter
written from Ben to George Washington and explain why he wanted
this bird as the national bird of the U.S.A.
At the end, explain why you personally choose this fact to be
included in your ten
5. Free Choice Option: This piece should be at least 600 words in
length. Your bibliography should have at least 3 academic sources
(attached as a second page). Choose a topic of your choice to
research more in depth. This topic should be explained thoroughly and
include a picture to enhance the given information. You may choose to
give a summary of something or write a detailed informative essay on
the topic.

The final project will be turned in together for assessment. Make sure that
you have looked over papers for grammar/syntax and spelling errors. You
will get a grade for each section as well as an overall grade of the full
project.
