PART 1 - READING ALOUD You are a youth reporter for a jocal radio station. You were sent to report on the devastation caused by a big storm the previous night. Back at the studio you deliver your report on the lunchtime news. Here is what you say. | couldn't believe the sight that met me when | arrived at Forest Road earlier this moming, The area had clearly suffered the worst impact of the storm. Trees and branches littered the road. Cars had been overturned, a small shop had lost its roof and there were huge puddies everywhere from the heavy When I got to the scene, officers from the Civil Defence Force had already diverted all the traffic and were busy assessing the damage, and working out the best way to deal with the problem. | spoke to one of the senior officers and he told me that this was just one of several areas across the city that had suffered severe damage. It had been an extremely fierce storm with very strong wind speed and heavy rain. He said that it was very fortunate that nobody had been hurt and that all the flying debris and branches could clearly have caused serious injuries, or even fatalities. | also spoke to Jasmine Cheong, a young mother who lives in one of the adjacent apartments. This is what she told me: “We were awake because the noise of the storm was so intense and the children were frightened. When we eventually plucked up courage to look out of the window, we couldn't believe it. The lovely park that we enjoy looking at from our window was a complete mess. I'm just grateful this happened during the night so there were no people about. Imagine if it had happened during the morning rush hour. I's a terrifying thought? ‘As we were speaking, the deafening sound of several chainsaws filled the air, as work began on cutting up some large branches so they could be taken away, The clean-up will continue for most of the day. @UCLES & MOE 2014 seaoatons 3 PART 2- SPOKEN INTERACTION Study the picture. ©UCLES & MOE 2014 rreaosonuis 2 Examiners should use all the prompts provided to engage candidates in a discussion.
