Phase IV
2
Phase I

I want to build computer and technology skills for the 2nd graders in
Kelsey Elementary School in order to build earlier skills in children growing up in
a technology-based world. These training will begin with the school bring in 3 to
5 new computers into Mr. Justin Simms class to help with building the computer
skills of his 2nd graders. This program is to help with his students to get use to a
computer and learn the basic computer skills and typing. The target audience will
be Mr. Simms 2nd grade students and to help them master basic skill that will help
them improve in the their future computer classes and grades at Kelsey
Elementary School. The length of the 2nd grade computer class will start after
winter break and conclude the last week of April. The 2 goals from this course is
to have the kids typing at least 15 words per minute and being able to show basic
computer skills like how to turn it on and off and how to access class programs.

Phase II

The course name will be titled as Mr. Simms 2nd Grade Technology Skills
Builder to go in line with the fact that his students will be using new technology
in their classroom and will be accumulating new skills to help them later on in
school and in their future personal lives. The 1st goal I want to implement from
this course is to have at least 80% of the children to be typing at least 15 words
per minute. This goal is set in place to help the students get use to typing and they

will be able to know how hand placements go. The 2nd goal is for the children to
be able to show basic computer skills like how to turn it on and off and how to
access class programs. This goal will help Mr. Simms students with the
knowledge of basic computer skills and will surely help them with their future
and personal computer use.

The 1st Goal Objectives

A.
B.
C.
D.

Introduction to the Computer Keyboard.

Show proper hand movements and placements.
Practice writing short sentences.
Timed test on words per-minute.

The 2nd Goal Objectives

A.
B.
C.
D.

Introductions to Computer.
Turning Computer on & off.
Accessing class programs.
Test to show what they learned.

The skills in these objectives will encourage critical thinking skills that are
more set-aside for Mr. Simms 2nd Graders. They will all be setup to work on their
own with only help from the Mr. Simms. This is set up like this to make sure that
each student has their own opportunity to learn on their own with little to no
distraction.

Phase IV
4
The instructional activities will be set-aside with one on one interaction
with Mr. Simms and interaction in a classroom setting. All activities will be set on
the school computers that will be used. The instructional technologies that will be
used in the class will the Smart Mouse Typing program that is a cartoon character
mouse helping the kids type and put words together. The last instructional
technology program will be How Mr. Computer Works, which is a kids based
game that shows the children how to work basic computer and program functions.

Phase III

The course will be the total of 6 months long and will follow a strict
timeline that will start the 1st week in December and will be carried out to the end
of May the following year. The only people that will be involved in this will be
the facilitator Mr. Simms and his entire 2nd grade class. The resources that will be
strictly used in this class will be the development computer programs that will be
used by the kids. The 1st program is the Smart Mouse Typing program in which is
made up of a cartoon character mouse that helps the kids type, put words together,
and challenges them to type faster. The final instructional technology program is
called How Mr. Computer Works. This program is which is a game that shows the
kids how to work computer programs and basic computer functions. These
programs are the lifeline strategies that will be used to help the children grow in
the computer and typing methods.

Phase IV
5
The plan will be communicated to Mr. Simms and his class by September
1st and Mr. Simms will receive the training needed before programs are introduced
to the children the 1st week of December. The training that Mr. Simms will get
will be a weeklong and consist of 5 3 hours training classes on the set up and use
of the programs and computers. The interest build into the program is great
because this has not been done before at Kelsey Elementary School, this program
is the 1st of its kind & will be studied to see how effective it is & how the kids do
once they are in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade to see if they excel over other kids who did
not get the training in Mr. Simms 2nd grade. Seeing these results is the main
interested in this skill builder. The only participants that will be used in this
Technology Skill Builder will be the 21 students of Mr. Simms 2nd grade. The
formative assessments will be seen as the students move on to higher grades to
see if they excel in their computer classes more than the class before them.

Phase IV

The criteria that will be used to see if the objectives, goals, and the overall
outcomes will need to come over time for this project. As the outcomes will show
as the children in Mr. Simms 2nd grade as they move on to 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade. The
school will see if they excel in typing and basic knowledge of working a
computer. This knowledge will need to be documented by future teachers to see if
any children in Mr. Simms class excel over the other students that were not in Mr.

Phase IV
6
Simms 2015 graduating 2nd grade class. Notes in the permanent files will be kept
to see if the progress is positive for Mr. Simms 2nd Grade Technology Skills
Builder program. School official will view the childrens files each year to see if
the progress of those students who attended Mr. Simms 2nd grade. The goals that
the school officials will be looking for will be seeing if Mr. Simms 2nd grade
students excel in the classes over the children who where not in Mr. Simms class.

The evaluations instrument that will be used will be in the form of a test
that all students will need to partake at the beginning of each 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade
and then they will need to take another test at the end of the school year to see
what they have learned. It is hoped that the students who were in Mr. Simms class
will be able to complete these specialized test with a higher grade and show the
highest understanding of typing and basic computer knowledge. The computer
programs used in the future 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade classes will let students move on
when their skills have improved on 5 different levels of typing and basic computer
knowledge. These levels on the program games that are used throughout current
3rd, 4th, & 5th grade are only required to reach level 3. The hopes are that the
students in Mr. Simms 2015 2nd grade class will be able to make it to level 4 or 5
by the 5th grade, giving them a better understanding of typing and basic computer
knowledge and this will show that the early age engagement of the programs used
were helping students advance their typing and computer knowledge. If there is
success seen in this, then the programs used in Mr. Simms class will be used with
all of the future 2nd grade classes.
