Death Penalty
The death penalty/capital punishment is not the best answer for the wrongdoers, because
its not good taking someones life for any reason. The death penalty is a type of punishment given
from the government to those who did something severely bad, murder is an example. The death
penalty is the most violent type of punishment a government can give to there citizens. Also the
death penalty has become a major issue in society, because it has become a major debate on
rather the death penalty should still exist or if it should be abolished. The death penalty should
not be used to punish someone for their wrongdoings because 1) It is too cruel and violent 2) It
impacts so many lives in a bad way 3) Most people are against the death penalty.
The death penalty is inflicted in very cruel ways and it violates the human rights.
Beheading, hanging, fire, stoning, and slow torture has been used to inflict the the death penalty.
In the past Egyptians were believed to leave there wrongdoers on wooden stakes and leave them
to die in the sun. In some countries wrongdoers were carried out in front of crowds and would
get executed in front of their eyes. Today some of the methods on how the death penalty is used
is electric chair and the gas chamber, and supporters say it is a quick and painless way to execute
the wrongdoers. Supporters of the death penalty say that these types of punishment is humane
and makes societies safe, but these punishments lead to more violence and separates the of
societies The death penalty also violates human rights, because there have been cases where the

victim is wrongly accused. A group of Irish men, known as the Birmingham Six, spent about
16 years in jail after being accused of terrorist murders. They were released after they were found
innocent in 1991. If the death penalty would have been used in the UK, the six men would have
been executed.
Those who receive the death penalty are not the only ones who are affected, but
also the families of the victims. Families of the victim would often feel range of emotions due to
the execution of their loved ones. Their first emotions are grief and distress, and later they
become angry and also feels despair. After a while these emotions would perhaps lead families to
thoughts of revenge and retribution. Some families try to understand why there loved ones died,
and most of times they disappointed on what they find out. Society as a whole are also affected
by the death penalty. In some places people protest against the death penalty, and in other places
people support the death penalty. So this shows that the death penalty separates society in a way
that people can not work together. The death penalty has become a major debate on rather it
should still be used or to be abolished. People fight to try and keep it, and others fight to try to
end it.
The percentage of abolishing the death penalty has risen over those who support the death
penalty. Some people believe that some of the worst crimes should not be punishable by death.
As more countries abolish the death penalty and stop using capital punishment, support for the
death penalty starts to decrease. In 1994, a Gallup poll had 80 percent of support for the death
penalty, but in 2006 this dropped 65 percent. Also, in the twentieth century, there has been an
increase of protests against the death penalty. People that are against the death penalty argue that
although some methods for inflicting the death penalty are more painful then others, none are

humane and it does not belong in everyday society. People also think that the death penalty does
stop crimes, but increase the amount of crimes that happen in society. The support for the death
death penalty continues to drop in the 2000s, and this shows that the death penalty should no
longer be used.
Some people do believe that the death penalty does keep society safe. They say that the
death help the crime rate go down. But, the death penalty leads to more violence in society,
because people start to protest against it. This then leads to more crimes and it does not help keep
society safe. People also say that it brings relief to the people of society. Although this might be
true, the families of the the victims are badly impacted by the execution of there loved ones.
Families of the victim feel very strong emotions, and this than leads to more violence. It is also
said that the death penalty control the rate of crimes, but most of the times start to strike against
it. Then this starts more trouble and makes people, and therefor leads to mush more crimes in the
future. People also want to keep the death penalty because it is appropriate and affective for
certain crimes. But, the death penalty is very cruel and the ways the death penalty is inflicted
upon some people is not the best way to go about punishing them. This is why the death penalty
should no longer be used and to stop taking lives from people.
In conclusion punishing someone with the death penalty for doing something wrong is
not the best answer. The way that the death penalty is being used is not only cruel but also
violates human rights. Some of those types of punishments are hanging, beheading, and slow
torture. Sometimes people are wrongly convicted of doing something wrong, and then are
wrongly executed for something that they did not do. Not only are the victims affected, but also
the families of the victims who got executed by the death penalty. Families will feel very sad

emotions, then they become very angry and may also have thoughts of revenge. Also some
families are disappointed when they find out why there loved ones were killed. More people are
also starting to go against the death penalty. It has been shown that the support for the death
penalty has decreased, and percent of going against the death penalty has risen. Polls in the past
has shown the decrease of support for the death penalty. It is understandable that the crimes of
some of these people should be punished. These people should also be keep away from other
people and away from society. But, the death penalty should not be the answer for the
wrongdoers, because taking someones life does not make the human race any better.
