LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 2013-2015

SEMINAR REFLECTIVE SUMMARY

SEMINAR TOPIC: Emotional Intelligence
Dr. Hope Murray 10/22/13
PARTICIPANTs NAME:
1. What were the significant learning points for you in this seminar?
This is the third time I have participated in the EQ presentation
with Hope Murray over the past ten years at DTCC. It is a
standout to me that each time I attend this session, I pick up on
additional opportunities to reflect on my behaviors and actions
and the growth I have developed with experience. This activity
allows one to identify their leadership and personal traits and
provides guidance on how one might develop positive goals to
interact with others and address personal situations.
2. In what ways is each learning point supportive of or relevant to
your ideas about leadership?
-Treating people with respect, dignity and fairness by maintaining
open mindedness and communication.
-Communications and decisions will exhibit highest standard of
integrity affording all parties the opportunity to have open and
honest dialogue and feedback.
- Persistence to be more effective in communication, campus and
college involvement, and program development to meet the
needs of the organization.
-Is able to see the "Big Picture"
-Is a decision maker.
-Have excellent team management skills.
3. Identify a way to apply each of these learning points to your
current role at the College.
To be effective in a leadership role one must maintain EQ to
facilitate a collaborative and cohesive work environment. This
presentation keeps me "in check" with how critical these tools
are. It provides review of the fundamental elements of listening,
reacting, and delivering spoken and unspoken responses.
