Unit Title: Future Equation and Inequalities

Name: Luiz Gustavo Cordovil

Content Area: Algebra I

Grade Level: 9th-11th

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

Solve equations and inequalities in one variable. [Linear inequalities; literal equations that are linear in the variables
being solved for; quadratics with real solutions]
3. Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.
Big Ideas:

1- Know the difference between equations and inequalities.

2- Correctly solve equations and inequalities by applying the rules.
3- Correctly explain each step of the solution by using academic language.
Unit Goals and Objectives:

Students will learn how to solve equations and inequalities that have one variable by using additive and multiplicative inverses.
Students will be able to create inequalities and equations to solve real world problems.
Students will be able to solve and prove the results of their equations and inequalities.
Unit Summary:

Students will learn the proper steps in order to solve equations and inequalities. First, students will be able show
background knowledge about inequality signs. Once students are able to correctly read and understand the signs, students
will learn the first few rules for solving inequalities. By choosing when to use additive and multiplicative inverses, students
will also know how to manipulate inequality signs and use them to prove their answers. Finally, students will be able to
understand and apply equations and inequalities to solve real world problems.

Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level:

Formative:

Summative:

Brainstorm: What are the

mathematical symbols that define
a problem as being an equation or
inequality?

Guided Notes: Difference and

similarities of equations and
inequalities.

Inequalities step-by-step process: use

the rubric to make sure you have
correctly completed your work

Quizzlet: Study set for equations and

inequalities

Presentation: The group will

compare answers and then present
to the class each step of the
problem to ho they arrived at the
answer.

QUIZ: 20 minute online quiz focussing

on rules for solving inequalities and
equations
Webercise: Using websites to research
companies.
