Brighton Beach Memoirs Business Letter

In the Brighton Beach Memoirs Eugenes brother Stan has a run in with
his boss that results in him having to make a choice. Stan and Eugene
have a conversation that describes Mr. Stroheims demands and Stans
thoughts on what he will do:
STAN:

He wants a letter of apology. And that if the letter of


apology isnt on his desk by nine o clock tomorrow
morning, I can consider myself fired.

EUGENE: I wouldve had a heart attackwhat did you


say?
STAN:

I said I was not going to apologize if Andrew


still had to pay for the hats (Simon 26).

Your Task:
Put yourself in Stans shoes.
You will either write a letter of apology, as requested, or you will
write a letter of resignation.
Be sure to follow the formal letter format on the attachment.
Your letter should be at least three paragraphs in length.
Remember, you are writing from Stans perspective. Use the
conversations between Eugene and Stan, and Stan and Jack (their
father) later in the act to help you fill out the body of the letter.
Indicate specific reasons for your choice.
Consider what you have learned about writing a formal letter.
Remember the qualifiers of good communication and dont forget
the importance of wording!
You will write a rough draft, have it peer edited, and submit a typed
good copy for evaluation.
