Minority Report Questions
1.)
I dont think in todays society could accept a standard punishment for all
crimes. As far as murder is concerned. I feel the opinions of society would be split.
Some would feel hypocritical about killing a murderer, while others would claim a
death penalty would be justified towards a murderer.
2.)
I believe the drug dealers claim is true. The government doesnt make all
government actions open to the press for good reasons such as protecting people
and to prevent widespread panic.
3.)
Since a determinist doesnt believe in free will, they would respond just as
they did in the movie. Using the precogs abilities they would find their actions for
suppressing crime justified.
4.)
A determinist would say that the balls future was prevented simply because
the ball will fall at some point. A free will advocate would say that there is not fate
and the ball would not fall because of intervention.
5.)
I think his decision would prove whether precognition works or not. But it
would call into question whether the system should abandon precognition
altogether. In the movie it said that precognition worked and there were no murders
in D.C.
6.)
Personally I dont think it makes a difference, because I think it doesnt
matter what he intended to do. What matters is what happened despite what he
intended to do.
7.)
I think it dehumanized those children. By making them tools to benefit
themselves they used these people to see into the future .These people only see
murders that will happen. Therefore making them tools so they can stop crime.
8.)
I think that if the precogs disagree sometimes then that would mean
precognition isnt perfect and doesnt work perfectly as they claimed in the film.
9.)
I think deterrence is more important here. Just because of one fallibility the
whole system was shut down that protected a lot of people. Even though the
system was dehumanizing 3 people and imprisoning people in stasis it was still
effective in preventing murders.
10.) Privacy rights would be infringed upon. It would be so easy to access
anyones identity and personal information. I feel anyone with access to this kind of
technology could be corrupted easily and take advantage of eye scanning
technology.

11.) It doesnt work because Lamar is forced to make a decision to kill himself. He
doesnt want to kill Anderton, but he couldnt live the rest of his life as a criminal.
His decision proved that precognition doesnt work.
