Human Rights Violations in Africa
Africa has many human rights violated every day in their continent. Some say it is
the continent with the most rights violated in the world. Most countries in Africa have
very poorly run governments with little to no respect for the citizens of their countries.
There are many human rights broken every day, but heres just a few.
One article that has been broken in Africa is Article 4. Article 4 states that No one
shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all
their forms. In Africa, the issue of slavery has been a problem for many years. One
recent issue is that of the 200 some Nigerian girls that were abducted from their school
and then sold into sex slavery throughout Nigeria. A terrorist group that works
throughout Nigeria went to a school in Nigeria and kidnapped girls and threatened to
sell them into sex slavery if someone didnt give him his ransom he had offered. Many
of the families couldnt pay the high ransom offered to them and they were sold into sex
slavery and many were killed. Issues such as these exist throughout Africa every day.
Most are not as severe or involve as many people, but people are still violated of their
rights every day.
Another article that is broken throughout Africa is Article 5. Article 5 states that No
one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or
punishment. In Africa, the issue of torture has been prominent throughout the continent
for many years. One issue of torture involved children in Kenya in 2008. The children
were tortured by the Kenyan army because they were thought to have been aiding the

rebel army in Kenya. They were beaten, broken and had many other horrifying things
done to them. This is just one example of what is happening all over the continent today.
Not even just children, but many adults are tortured every single day as a punishment
for something they have done.
Finally, another article that is broken is Article 25. Article 25 states that 1)
Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of
himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and
necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment,
sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances
beyond his control. 2) Motherhood and children are entitled to special care and
assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social
protection. An example of this is Africa as a whole. Obviously, Africa has many countries
with very well developed cities, but a lot of Africa has many hunger problems and non
liveable conditions for their countries citizens.
