Proposition Paper for British Literature

I believe that there are many interpretations of what truth is, and what truth is not. Some
philosophers have truth in their theories according to the Bible, and some do not. Personally I
believe that the only ultimate source of truth that can be found in this world is the Bible.
Although it was written around two thousand years ago, the Bible is a book that has undergone
severe criticism and disbelief. However, it still stands today as one of the most popular books.
The Bible's interpretation of truth can be very different from philosophers and
epistemologists. For example: The Bible focuses on how God is origin of every good attribute
which includes truth, and it also implies that real understanding and clarity can only come
through Jesus. I find this to be correct because the Bible is true for myself, since I apply what it
says to my life and because I believe in it. In other words, verses especially found in Proverbs
such as Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and in all your ways acknowledge
him and he will make your paths straight" (BibleGateway). This scripture verse is true because I
haveapplied the verse to my life and what was written actually came to pass in my life.
I hold the Bible to be the main source of truth, because there has so far been no evidence
of the Bible being wrong in its teachings. Whenever I apply a verse to my life and do my best to
live out what it says, the action shown in the bible always comes to pass in my life. In addition,
the Bible is true for myself because it has never had any errors in its core values and beliefs. This
is because the foundation of God is founded on the Bible, and I know that God cannot lie.
However, Satan is commonly known as the "Father of Lies".
Philosophers on truth along with Epistemologists, do have little truth according to the
Bible. The reason why there are Philosophers that have little truth according to the Bible is

because most Epistemologists are not Christian or do not believe in God. In the grand scheme of
things, anything can be true but it is the person's core beliefs that determine whether or not
something it true or not. This is solely in regards to religion, and even though there may be little
evidence supporting other religions some people find the religion to be true for themselves and
that is why they chose to follow.
Concerning factual truths, I believe that most epistemologists are correct because there
beliefs on truth are factual or literal and are not affiliated with religious matters. Epistemologists
such as Bertrand Russell, have an emphasis on what makes statements true or false. Robert
Nozick has the following theory on truth: 1. X is true 2. Y believes that X. 3. If it were the case
that (not-X), Y would not believe X and lastly 4. If it were the case that X, Y would believe that
X (The Information Philosopher).
Since we understand that many opinions are not about objects that Russell thought we
had familiarized ourselves with (for example: objects in the distant past, or people we have never
met), Russell also did not think that most ordinary proper names were logically proper names
(What is Truth by Bertrand Russell).
Real truth in this world I believe can only be found in the bible. This type of truth can be
applied to our everyday lives because the Bible is correct and does not contain any lies. If you
follow through with a commandant in the Bible, the promised reward will always come to pass
in God's timing. This is what makes the Bible the most reliable and trustworthy source in the
universe. Another evident fact that proves that Bible trustworthy, is the fact that it can still be
applied to our lives even though it was written two thousand plus years ago. In addition, people
can get different interpretations from what a person reads from the bible.

Books that hold moral truths like the Bible is what makes the Bible true as well. Although
secular and moral short stories may hold truth in their writings, the Bible is the largest book that
holds moral truths. This is because the Bible is influenced by God, and its writers were people
who were given supernatural wisdom and understanding. The Bible as a result is a very reliable
source.
In the End, the Bible is the best source of truths compared to the other books that this
world has to offer. Containing moral truths and being influenced by God, the Bible is a book that
contains no lies. Factual truths, however, certainly are well defined by Russell with his multiple
truth theories. Without the Bible, I believe that this world would be in a very different place.
