FLASH ASSESSMENT

Year 9

Your task is to create an animation using Adobe Flash that shows something changing over time. For
example, you could show a house being built or a seed germinating into a flower. Think about how
much detail and how many steps you would need for the change you are going to show. You dont
want too much detail because it will take more time to create, but you want enough so the
transition between growth stages flow together clearly.
In addition to the final Flash Animation you will submit a timeline plan for your video showing the
major steps or stages in whatever you have chosen to change. You will also complete the included
worksheet and hand it in as well.
All work and ideas must be your own and you will have eight lessons to complete the design and
written parts and animation in class.
Due Date: 22nd of May

The timeline plan should include:

A simple sketch for each of the stages of change within your animation
A brief description of each sketch explaining what it is showing
An estimated time taken for one stage to move clearly into the next

The animation should include:

Both tweens and frame by frame animation

A title screen that shows both the starting object and final object
A background that is also animated to show the passing of time. Maybe night into day and
back again or the seasons passing over a year or two. Think about how long your timescale
is. Is it going to show a few days or a few years?
A suitable music track to accompany the video
The video should be a minimum of 40 seconds and a maximum of 140 seconds

The worksheet can be completed either at home or in class. Make sure you use your time wisely.

Timeline Plan: (20 marks)

Using the Internet research something that changes over time. It should have different stages, for example, a seed to a seedling to a small plant to a larger
and finally to a flower. Find three different things that you could show in your animation and list them here.

(2)_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(3)_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Draw the title screen for each of your three choices here. Remember to include both what you start with (e.g. a seed) and what you will end up with (e.g. a
flower).

Portfolio 3: Flash Animation

Emily Edwards 20368723

Choose one of the three for your animation and in each box below sketch your stages for the change you are going to animate. You dont have to use every
box and you can use more boxes if you want to. Make sure you include in each box how long it will take for you to transition to each stage into the next
one. The total animation should be between 40 and 140 seconds. Remember to think about animating the background as well.
Once you have completed your sketches, answer the following questions:

List the stages you will have in your animation

Will each stage of your animation take the same amount of time in your animation? (E.g. 10 seconds for every stage or 5 seconds for one and 15 seconds
for another). Why or why not?

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

What animated background will you create? Will it be a short timescale of a few days so you will have day and night, or will it be a longer time scale with
the seasons changing? Why have you chosen this?

Worksheet
Part 1: Research. Complete this section before you start creating your animation:
1. What is your timeline video going to show? Why are you going to pick this video to make
and not the other two? Relate this back to the research you have done on your three topics.

___________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________

2. Is there any variation in how long the change you have investigated might go for? What
factors might cause it to be longer or shorter in real life? Have you chosen the typical
timeline or a shorter or longer variation? Why?

3. Do the transitions you are going to show all happen at the same rate in real life or are some
faster or slower than others?
