STEPS
Design Brief: A local shoe manufacturer has been producing shoes for older audiences
(ages 20 40) for years and is looking to produce a shoe for a younger audience ages 12
19. Theyd like to launch a new line with one new mens and one new womans shoe. The
shoe can be a dress shoe, a casual shoe or athletic shoe for the entire 12 19 age range or a
segment of that market.
STEP I :
Market Research: Each designer will conduct their own market research for one style of
shoe. Start with questions posted on Edmodo, class code ggfncm.

The designer will interview young people in the 12 - 19 age range to find out what they
would like to see in a shoe, in terms of: intended use, color, style, comfort, materials and
price range. The information from the interviews will be collected in your sketchbooks.

The designer will research existing products or current fashion trends and collect images
of shoes on the market today. These can be collected in your sketchbook or digitally.

The designer will look for images of inspiration for the design of their shoe from: materials, insects, birds, architecture, fashion, etc. to glue into a sketchbook or collect digitally.
STEP 2:
Brainstorming: Each designer will brainstorm and draw out 3 ideas for their shoe design.
They will determine design, materials and color, then present their initial ideas to the Marketing Team to select the final design.
STEP 3:
Finished Design: Designers will complete a finished, fully rendered drawing in color, full scale (average size show is 8 for women and 9 for men), of the shoe from both the side and front view.
They will label each feature with a call out highlighting design or
material features of the shoe.
STEP 4:
Model: Each designer will create a model of the shoe, full scale,
in cardboard.
STEP 5:
Final Presentation: Each designer will create and give a visual presentation about their
shoe (like Prezi or Powerpoint) to the Marketing Team. They will include slides / pages with
the following information:
