Quantitative Research
Is where they use online surveys to gather information from the
public they use things like Facebook twitter etc. to advocate
their surveys. Surveys are useful as they are getting the
answers and response straight from the audience themselves.
The music industry would find this useful because it is reaching
out to the people who watch and buy the music videos. This
helps to gather information on what the public like when
watching particular a certain kind of music video.

Is a method of inquiry employed in many different academic
disciplines, conventionally in the social sciences, but also in
market research by the business sector and further contexts
including research and service demonstrations by the non-profit
partitions. This would be useful for the music industry because
they would need to gather information like the profits being
made and how much publicity they are gaining.

Secondary research
Secondary research is where you gather information from
things such as books etc. It is generally information that other
people have collected.
Primary research

Primary research consists of a collection of original primary

data collected by the researcher. It is often undertaken after the
researcher has gained some insight into the issue by reviewing
secondary research or by analyzing previously collected
primary data. It can be accomplished through various methods,
including questionnaires and telephone interviews in market
research, or experiments and direct observations in the
physical sciences, amongst others.
Data gathering agencies
RAJAR Ltd (Radio Joint Audience Research) was set up in 1992
to align, design and operate a single audience measurement
system for the UK radio industry serving both the BBC and
licensed commercial stations.
The company is jointly owned by the BBC (British Broadcasting
Corporation) and by the Radio Centre (the trade body
representing the vast majority of Commercial Radio stations in
the UK).
Whilst the Boards focus is on strategy, governance and
decisions of policy, more detailed technical research matters,
and where relevant, decision-making, takes place at the
meetings of a Technical Management Group (TMG). This group
is made up of representatives of the BBC, commercial radio and
the advertising community.

Self-generated
Self-generated is when you go out and gather the research and
information yourself rather than getting it from the internet.
Music producers would do this because it is more reliable
because you have gone out and collected it yourself.

Audience research
Before finalising any project, research must be done before
even thinking about the initial design. The point of doing this is
so that the producer can get a better insight of the target
audience, it would be pointless creating something thats not
going to appeal to the right people. Its important part of the
procedure its time consuming, and a waste of money if the
product is not created the way expected. Knowing the kind of
people you want to target the product at can create a wide
variety of ways to advertise the product also.

Market research
Market research is a structured effort to collect information
about target markets or customers. It is a very important piece
of a business strategy. Market research is a key factor in
maintaining competitiveness over competitors. Market research
provides important information to classify and scrutinize the
market need, market size and competition.

Production research
Production research is always needed when evolving a new
product. It is commonly research that helps to provide
information on the characteristics of the product. It emphases
on the production of the product and how its made.
