Title of Lesson: Primary colors mixing
Grade Level: 1st- 2nd grade
Anticipated Time Needed for the entire Lesson: 1 class period
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
Enduring Understanding: Artists and designers experiment with forms, structures,
materials, concepts, media, and art-making approaches.
Essential Question: How do artists and designers learn from trial and error?
Content Area Standards:
1st grade- Explore uses of materials and tools to create works of art or design.
2nd grade- Experiment with various materials and tools to explore personal interests in a
work of art or design.
Outcome(s)- Learning Targets
Students Can:
Use primary colors on water diffusion paper, and get it wet and show color
mixing.
Brief Description of Lesson
Students will first discuss primary colors (colors that can not be mixed to create
(red, blue, yellow)). Then the students will pick out a circular pattern and grab a water
diffusion paper. The students will color the circular pattern onto the water diffusion paper
using primary colored markers. After the students have completed their coloring they
will, with the help of the teacher, spray their paper getting it wet. After opening up their
paper after they have gotten it wet they can see how color mixes.

Scope and Sequence (Ordered Flow of Lesson)


1. Students will enter the classroom and be asked to sit boy-girl-boy-girl.
2. Class will discuss Primary colors (Primary is the word of the day) (Red, Blue, and
Yellow).
3. Teacher will demonstrate how to put the circular page under the color diffusion
paper and to color it.
4. Students will be picked individually based on behavior to grab color diffusion
paper and to pick a circular pattern.
5. Students will begin coloring on their color diffusion paper.
6. Once students have completed coloring the teacher will show the students how to
pinch their paper in the middle and roll it.
7. After their paper has been rolled the teacher will use a spray bottle and spray their
paper a few times.
8. The students will be instructed to the their paper sit for one whole minute
9. After their paper has sit they can open their paper up.
10. On a corner where it isnt wet the student will write their name on it with markers.
11. The class will have a discussion on how the water has effected the colors (made
new colors, orange, green, purple (secondary colors)).
12. Students will clean up. (Students will walk work to the drying rack, and pick up
markers).
Behavior Management:
1, 2, 3 eyes on me 1, 2, eyes on you. (Voices turn off)
Tootsie rolls and lollypops. We were talking now were not. (voices turn off)
If a student is being disruptive with students around him/her they will be moved
the private desk.
Lights off, mouths off
Freeze!!
Es are not to sit by each other.

Assessment
Students will be assessed on their use and understanding of primary colors.
Accommodations:
Jehovah witness in class (no holidays, government, flags)

Be aware of any specific disabilities and individual student needs relating to cognitive,
physical or cultural barriers. Note adaptations.
