As you know, my name is Alexandra Penzes and what I want to do now

is to talk to you about why Mars lost its Atmospere.

At first I want to let you know what made me to choose this subject.
After reading some other articles about science and engineering by chance I
googled an article about a project, called/named Mars One . Mars One's goal is
to establish a human settlement on Mars. In this mission is involved as a volunteer
astronaut a Romanian woman who lives in Canada and in 2020 she will go to
Mars.
This article inspired me and Ive decided to choose a subject related to
Mars. My article is not about human life on Mars, it is about NASAs newest
discoveries. Maybe some of you already know that NASA sent a new orbiter
to Mars and this way they are starting to reveal key features about the loss
of the planets atmosphere to space over time.
This mission is called NASAs MAVEN mission. MAVEN stands for Mars
Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution. This mission entered its science phase on
November 16. The observation reveal a new process by which the solar wind
can penetrate deep into a planetary atmosphere.
The result also offer an unprecedented view of ions as they gain the
energy that will lead to them to escape from the atmosphere. Scientist are
beginning to see the links and they say that over the course of the full
mission they will be able to fill in this picture and really understand the
processes by wich the atmosphere changed over the time.
Many researchers are working on this subject and their studies will help
make connections between the lower atmosphere, which controls climate,
and the upper atmosphere, where the loss is occurring.
A spectrometer has measured the abundances of many gases in ion and
neutral forms, revealing well-defined structure in the upper atmosphere and
ionosphere, in contrast to the lower atmosphere , where the gases are wellmixed.
These abundances over time will provide new insights into the physics
and chemistry and have already provided evidence of significant upperatmospheric weather that has not been measured in deteal before.
Researchers have also made a measurement with a spacecraft that is
important in determining the rate of atmospheric loss.
In conclusion, I think NASAs new mission will show significant result that will
.
