Castro and U.S become enemies

When Castro broke the pact between him and the U.S, he made collective
farms. That was in 1952.

Cuba sides with the Soviet Union

US and Cuba broke the relations they had and Cuba sided with the Soviet
Union. Citizens did not like this as they fled the country.

Bay of Pigs

US wanted to invade Cuba in 1961 with people who left when their country
turned to Communism.

Invasion occurs

On April 17, 1961 the invasion happened and caused chaos. The invasion
would ultimately fail.

Missile Crisis

When the US heard that Russia wanted to put missiles in Cuba to attack the
US, they and Cuba made a pact that the US would not attack Cuba if they did
not place the missiles in their country.

The embargo on Cuba

Cuba would ban US dollars in their country after the US limited what
Americans did over in Cuba.

Castro is reelected

After Castro was unsure it would be able to run in 2008, if would end up being
reelected along with his brother. His health would get better as well.

Castro walks away

After 49 years of power, the 81 year old retired from power and his brother
Raul would become the next president.

Moving closer to freedom

In 2008, Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque would give the citizens the right
to work, fair wages, social security, education, and high standards of physical
and mental health. Freedom was being gained slowly.

Digging away

Also in 2008, the government took away land restrictions and released
prisoners that acted on the US. This would help the economy that was poor.

MACHADO takes command

In 2011, Jose Ramon Machado would be elected. This was the first time in a
while a Castro had not been in power.

New Laws

Raul Castro would allow cars to be sold and purchased as well as real estate.
Things started to really loosen up in Cuba

Cuba welcomes a religious icon

The pope visited Cuba in 2012 after the church and Cuban government
relieved their stress on each other. Pushing them one step closer to freedom.

The Pope and his gathering

Over 200,000 people that attended the mass the Pope had. Many were
excited to see him, some were forced into seeing him.

Leaving gets easier

Raul Castro announced in 2012 that people would be able to leave the
country without an exit visa. Saying that in 2013 would be when it is put in
place.

Free to Leave

In January of 2013, Cubans would be able to leave the country once the
policy was put in. The only thing they needed was a passport and a visa..

Alan Gross

Alan Gross was freed in December of 2014. A US-aid contractor, was locked up
for 5 years trying to communicate outside of the Cuban governments control.

Relationships resume

Obama announced that U.S. would resume relations with Cuba since 1961.
One thing that resulted was an embassy in Havana.

Relationship Change between Cuba and the U.S

I believe the relationship between the two nations is getting better. I think
with both nations lifting sanctions off the other nation is a great example of
how it is going better than it was. Products and citizens are moving freely
between the two nations now and the only thing that is really negative is that
Cuba still has a dictatorship to an extent. Besides that, I see the US and Cuba
becoming very good partners in the future.
