iPad Video Scavenger Hunt

Overview
This activity will provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your
understanding of shooting video (basic camera shots, camera angles,
camera movement, and composition). You will also be introduced to
Microsoft Movie Maker. Your group will create a video scavenger hunt
video that has been edited in Microsoft Movie Maker.
Procedure
1. Using iPads, work with your group to gather 5-7 second shots for each
item listed on the back of this page. Take multiple shots for each to
ensure you have good shots. You may want to log them to be able to
identify them later. Each group member is responsible for taking at least
4 shots (if in a group of 4) and 3 shots (if in a group of 5) that he alone is
responsible for. You will need to indicate who captured which shots on
your final project (discussed later).
2. Upload video clips from iPads to a single desktop computer. Create a
folder on the shared drive of that computer and place all videos in that
folder. Review clips and save the best ones for each item on the shot list.
Rename video files to make them easier to sequence when editing (for
example, shot 1, shot 2, etc.)
3. Open Microsoft Movie Maker and create a new project by importing shots
and adding them to the timeline. (I will give you a preview of basic Movie
Maker features before you begin).
4. Your final video should include the following:
a. A title slide that includes the following: Video Scavenger Hunt
and group members names with an appropriate background color
and font of your choice
b. A title slide that precedes each shot. The title slide should include
the shot type and the person responsible for the shot. For example,
your first slide after the title slide will include: Establishing Shot of
_______ and the student who shot it. Set correct timings for each
slide.
c. The shot that demonstrates the concept
d. Add transitions between slides (choose 1 and apply to all).
e. Choose and add appropriate music with a fade out at the end of the
video
f. Make use of the variety of font choices that are available (size,
style, color, etc.)
5. Export your video as MPEG-4 and save to your P:drive. AND to the W:
Drive in the folder titled Video Scavenger Hunts

Video Scavenger Hunt List

Using your iPads, record 5-7 seconds of the visuals listed in the table below.
Remember to practice the camera skills and composition basics discussed in class.
Since this project involves creating 5-7 second video shots (rather than static
photos like those you shot for your last project), youll need to include appropriate
action to make them interesting. Otherwise, you will have a boring video with no
action. Think about how you can incorporate action or movement with each of the
shots. Provide direction to the subjects in your video shots.
