Dear Parents or Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as we begin the new
school year. I will be your son or daughters second grade teacher for the 2015-2016
school year. I am glad you and your child are here and look forward to working with you
this year. I know this is an exciting time for you and your child and I look forward to
helping your child grow and develop on our learning journey this year! Together, we will
make this a successful year.
My name is Karle Menefee and I am excited to be your childs teacher! I hold a
Baccalaureate degree from Mississippi State University in Interdisciplinary Studies with
concentrations in Psychology, Sociology, and Kinesiology, also a certifications in
education. Additionally I have 7 years working with kids ages 4-14 within several school
districts. I became a teacher because I love to interact with and watch children as they
learn, as well as facilitate the learning they participate in. I am looking forward to having
your child in my class. Their enthusiasm and energy offers great challenges and I look
forward to my year with them and with you too!! I want this second grade year to be a
happy as well as a meaningful one for you and your child. I am looking forward to
working with you as partners in your childs education. The first few weeks of school will
be dedicated to establishing routines in our classroom community . Research shows that
this is well spent as we create an atmosphere of respect, cooperation, and accountability.
The end result is a greater gain in academic achievement. We will discuss our
responsibilities to ourselves and as members of our class. During this time, I will also
assess the children in their math, reading and writing skills through beginning of the year
benchmark assessments. The information gathered will help me to tailor the curriculum to
fit your childs needs.
I believe a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum, school success.
Throughout the year I will communicate with you through weekly notes, monthly
newsletters, progress reports, telephone calls,e-mails, and parent conferences.
I encourage you to contact me if you have questions. Please feel free to call me at (254)
466-2880, send a note by your child, or email me at kam450@msstate.edu
As your child comes home, please remember these things: Compliment all
artwork, writing, books, etc. that come home to be shared. Encourage your child to tell you
about his/her work. Read to your child as often as possible. The benefits of this habit are
unbelievable and it is lots of fun.
I look forward to a great year with you and your child.
Your Second Grade Teacher,

Karle Menefee
