Steps in the Scientific Method

Explores and uses each of the steps in the Scientific Method by solving a crime scene investigation in a classroom simulation

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
A. Focusing event -Warm up: Video What does it take to be a CSI? T will ask Ss to get in groups of 3-4

B. Teaching procedures

Presentation:

Activate prior knowledge: T will recall last day of class by askingwhat do you remember about

the CSI we were trying to solve?


b)

Emphasize function: T will assign the project to Ss and will give a summary of the case.

Establish structures: Each group will be given a set of files (folders) which they have to read,

analyze and organize in order to get to the solution of the CSI

Check-up: T will be monitoring Ss performance. He/She will be guiding the investigation by using

the Crime and Investigation simulation page.

Guided practice/ Controlled practice: Ss will be working along with the T on solving the crime scene.

Free practice: Ss will analyze each of the suspects and will decide who is the murderer

C. Wrap-up:

D. Student Participation: Each student will have a specific role in their groups.

Closure: Ss will give a one minute explanation of their possible murderer. T will then provide the right
killer/murderer.
