Problem 2

The orsat analysis of the flue gases from a boiler house chimney by volume is as given
below:
CO2:11.4%, O2:4.2%, and N2:84.4%
Assuming that complete combustion takes places
i
Calculate the % excess air and
ii
Find the C:H ratio in the fuel

The ultimate analysis of coal sample is given below;

C:61.5% ,H2:3.5%, S:0.4%, ash:14.2%, N2:1.8% and rest oxygen
Calculate
a Theoretical oxygen requirement per unit weight of coal
b Theoretical dry air requirement per unit weight of coal , and
c The orsat analysis of flue gases when coal is burned with 90% excess dry air.

3) The Ultimate analysis of residual fuel oil (RFO) sample is as given below
C: 88.4%, H:9.4% and S:2.2 % ( by weight) It is used as a fuel in apower generating
boiler with 25% excess air, Calaculet
a) The theoretical dry air requiment
b) The actual dry air supplied
c) The orsat analysis of flue gases.
4) A furnace is fired with fuel oil , the orsat analysis of the flue gases( by volume) is as
given below:
CO2%10.6%, O2:6% and N2:83.4%
Calculate the % excess air and find the C:H ratio in the fuel oil , assuming that fuel
does not contain N2.
