Context of the lesson :
Keeping warm: Task 2 Making a thermometer
Teaching goal :
To teach students make their own thermometer.
Learning objectives : By the end of the lesson the students will be able to :
- Identifies the temperature variation and make a thermometer.
Assumptions about prior learning
-The students will be familiar with thermometer and objects that are hot and cold.
Anticipated problems and possible solutions
Problem: the water in students thermometers may take long time to be warm.
Solution: teacher will use small gas stove and put the thermometer to show mercury increasing quickly.
Personal focus for this lesson
-Monitor children more closely.
-Using the body language.
-Classroom management.
Target language

The teacher will play a


game with students. If the
teacher mention a hot
temperature object,
students will raise their
hands/ stand up. If she
mention cold temperature
object they will not raise
their hands/ set down.
The teacher give students
materials to show them
how to make a
thermometer.
The teacher will give each
group a big poster. Some
groups will brainstorm as
many hot temperature
object and write it down.
Other groups will
brainstorm cold objects
and write it down.

stand up and make a circle in the
classroom. She will ask each
student to throw a ball to a
classmate and tell about
something he learn in this lesson
or the previous lesson.
The teacher will paste a question
under some tables and answers
under other tables and ask
students to find each other.
Questions are review of this and
previous lesson such as what is the
temperature of water when it boils.
