Argument #1 (Goldwater)

Final Revision
6/1/15

Although many unconditionally agree with Goldwaters claim, stating

the analogy between extremism and passivism in the defense of liberty. It is
only correct when societys well being is not compromised. When the safety
and the livelihood of citizens could be tampered with acts and ideas of
defending our freedom is wrong.
While standing firm for what you believe in is admired, when others
around are in harms way, that becomes an issue where to draw the line.
Placing lives in danger for personal liberties is selfish, which can eventually
turn into violence. It doesnt matter how small the compromise is, disturbing
the human race is an extreme that shouldnt be reached. Extremism can
reach levels, where liberty and justice have no meaning. As Hitler committed
these same intolerable actions, the mass genocide of the Jewish race
exemplifies his extreme views. His extreme theories that the dominant race
could only a certain race and religion. In his ideas of justice and freedom,
society flipped upside down, snatching away the freedom of certain German
citizens because of dictatorial power that Hitler had over the Jews, which is
racist. Goldwaters extremism shows patriotism, however only to the extent
when safety of innocent people is at serious risk. During 911, civilians lost
their lives to extremism in the form of retaliation by a terrorist attack. AlQaidas extreme views turned into actions of violence. This event raised a
red flag on Goldwaters statement on being extreme and passive as a

society, as well as on present day issues such as 911 and the growing
elephant on racism within our communities. The passive view society has
brought upon results of extremism. Individual opinions on freedom and
defending their own views monopolized to the point of taking a firm stance
on justice. African Americans felt the need in Baltimore, has led to
devastating states of destruction. Safety of children have been compromised
by the impulsive actions of their own race. Baltimores built up passiveness,
has turned into riots. In this case, their extreme ways are limiting their own
freedom, because the law is being broken, only causing African Americans
more grief. Extremism is being built off of opinion and ran on emotion, which
is wrong in this extent as lives are put in danger. These outburst of
extremism are direct to show that liberty is rigged.
When society is overwhelmed by the ideas of extremism, it only needs
to focus on improving ways for these ideas and thoughts to be acceptable.
Goldwaters claims of extremism is to defend that liberty is patriotic.
