answering questions and soliciting information.
o Organization and Delivery of Oral Communication Make oneself understood when
speaking by using consistent standard English grammatical forms and sounds;
however, some rules are not followed (e.g., third person singular, male and female
pronouns).

Speaking (Advanced ELD level)


o Focus - Negotiate and initiate social conversations by questioning, restating,
soliciting, and paraphrasing the communication of others.
Writing (Intermediate ELD Level)
o Organization and Focus - Follow a model given by the teacher to independently write
a short paragraph of at least four sentences. Write legible, simple sentences that
respond to topics in content areas. Create cohesive paragraphs that develop a central
idea and consistently use standard English grammatical forms even though some rules
may not be followed. Write simple sentences about an event or a character from a
written text. Produce independent writing that is understood when read but may
include inconsistent use of standard grammatical forms.

Rationale/Purpose and Summary of the Lesson
1. Warm up Students will discuss biographies or autobiographies theyve read. (5
minutes)
2. Class
a. Teacher will hand out an interview note-taking matrix to students and model the
use of it. (5 minutes)
b. Students will present their self-portraits. (15 minutes)
c. In groups of three, peers will use the biography interview note-taking matrix to
ask questions. (15 minutes)
d. One person will act as scribe for each interviewee so questions and answers can
be freely given.
e. The scribe will give the interview note-taking matrix to the presenting student.
f. The teacher will present a model outline to the students and a sample completed
mini autobiography. (5 minutes)
g. The student will create an outline for an autobiographical based on the received
note-taking matrix and their self-portraits. (15 minutes)
h. Teacher will circulate throughout the room as students work outlines individually.
3. Closing
1. Teacher will ask two students to present the first part of their outlines. (5
minutes)
2. Outlines will be completed at home.
Differentiation for Student Needs
Some students may have a high affective filter in regards to oral presentations. For the
presentation, student will be allowed to use index cards to make sure key points are
covered.

Students may vary in writing skills and ability. Each step of the writing process will be
assessed and evaluated. Students will be provided very detailed notes on outline to
facilitate the writing of their final essays.
