I agree the President Nassers actions were the main cause of the Suez war.
In 1954, not even in power yet he orders President Muhammad Naguib under house
arrest and took his place in office. But then in June 1956 Nasser nomination of
presidency was approved. His respect within the Western powers was dropping
when he became very neutral with the policies during the Cold War. The Western
powers later withdrew funding for the planned Aswan Dam. This causing him to
have no superpower countries on his side if a war ever happened and he needed
help of Egypt. So on October 29th when Israel invaded the Egyptian Sinai, Brittan
and France released a ultimatum to cease the fire this was ignored. Then on the
5th of November Brittan and France landed solders on the Suez Canal using
paratroopers. The Egyptians were soon defeated but the good news for them was
that all shipping was blocked in the canal. So if Nasser would of helped choose a
side instead of being neutral in the government maybe the attacked would have
been avoid instead of being planned.
