World History Honors 2
World Wars
1) Should the world have a global problem solving organization
were members adhere to decisions of the collective?
No, because the decisions of the collective people might
not always benefit everyone in the way they are meant to.
Sometimes, an idea may be thought of as beneficial to a
certain group of people, but once people from other groups
are introduced to it, the plan just falls apart or is deemed
completely useless. If governments are allowed to
individually support their people, it would be more
effective. However, I do believe that there should be a
higher group to help monitor all the countries behaviors.
Power in the 20th Century
1) What events provide evidence that the Cold War was a struggle
for power by the US and USSR?
I think that the Cuban Missile Crisis showed that the Cold
War was really a struggle for power. The entire basis of this
crisis was that both the Soviet Union and the United
States wanted all nuclear weapons that werent their own
to be destroyed. Each country wanted to be able to have
the power of weapons of mass destruction, so they would
be able to attack any country that they wanted to if it ever
became necessary (or, at least, what they thought to be
necessary).
2) Why has the world become potentially more dangerous upon the
conclusion of the Cold War?
Since the Cold War, there has been a great increase in
nuclear weapons/weapons of mass destruction. This makes
the world more dangerous because if more countries have
the power to launch a nuclear weapon, then its more likely
that they will launch one. A nuclear war would be very
detrimental to the rest of the world, especially neighboring
countries to which the nuclear weapons were landing.

3) Should nations restrict civil rights to keep populations safe fro,

international threats?
No, I dont think it should be 100% the governments
responsibility to keep everyone safe. You need to take your
life into your own hands, at least a little bit. Everyone in
the country should have the right to do or not do whatever
they please, to a certain extent. If someone wants to do
something that has been blatantly explained as dangerous,
let them.
Globalization
1) What role has science/technology played in the theme of
globalization in the last 60 years?
Advances in science and technology have increased an
almost unbelievable amount in the last 60 years. These
advancements have increased productivity,
communication, and even improved things like travel. The
new sciences and technologies impact globalization
because new communications can rapidly spread ideas,
which can impact people on a global level.
2) Why do some nations make choices that have known detrimental
impacts on the rest of the world?
Usually a countrys main priority is to do what is best for its
own people. If the choice benefits other countries, thats
great, but not a necessity. For example, the United States
retrieves oil from the Middle East, even when it can be
found to have damaging impacts on the area. Even though
the US has oil right here on our own land, we choose to
import it from another continent. Fracking has been shown
to have lasting effects on the ground its done it, and the
effects arent beneficial.
