1. Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

To stop hunger and better the future economy of the country.

El Salvador

Uruguay

Makes $7,101.57 per capita.

Makes $14,428.36 per capita.

36.5% of the country is in Poverty.

18.6% of the country is in Poverty.

$0.81 is the average hourly wage.

$1.77 is the average hourly wage.

El Salvador has higher poverty with 36.5% affected.

Uruguay has less poverty compared to El Salvador due to higher per

capita.

2. Achieve Universal Primary Education

Education gives higher opportunity for success to an individual and a family.

El Salvador

Uruguay

Approximately a person receives 6.51 years of school.

Primary school dropout rate is 15.98%.

Adult literacy rate is 84.5%.

Low rate of literacy shows that education hasnt been a big priority
and dropout rates need to decease.

Approximately a person receives 8.45 years of school.

Primary school dropout rate is 5.26%.

Adult literacy rate is 98.1%.

Uruguay has a very high literacy rate that can correlate with the
mean years of education and low dropout rate.

3. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women

Women need to have more of a voice so that can have the ability to improve their loves, government, country
and environment.

El Salvador

26.19% of women hold a seat in parliament.

36.82% of women receive a secondary education.

Uruguay

43.57% of men receive a secondary education.

El Salvador has more equality with more women in parliament but

less empowerment with less education for women.

12.3% of women hold a seat in parliament..

54.38% of women receive a secondary education.

50.27% of men receive a secondary education.

Uruguay has lower equality with less women in parliament but more
empowerment with more education for women.

4. Reduce Child Mortality

With better health standards, practices and procedures percentages of

child mortality will reduce.

El Salvador

Uruguay

Life expectancy at birth of 72.6%.

Under five mortality rate of 1.6%.

7% of children lack measles immunization.

Immunization would most definitely increase the life expectancy

especially for children if more were immunized.

Life expectancy at birth of 77.23%.

Under five mortality rate of 0.7%.

4% of children lack measles immunization.

There is a better life expectancy in Uruguay with so many

immunizations and better health procedures.

5. Improve Maternal Health

Improving maternal health gives mothers and babies a better fighting chance of survival.

El Salvador

Uruguay

Maternal mortality rate (per 100,000) is 81 persons.

Antenatal coverage is 94%.

Adolescent birth rate is 7.5%.

The higher adolescent rate can be attributed to the higher mortality

because some of those are unplanned pregnancy

Antenatal coverage is 96.2%.

Maternal mortality rate (per 100,000) is 29 persons.

Adolescent birth rate is 5.8%.

Higher coverage and lover adolescent birth rates makes for a much
lower mortality rate compared to El Salvador.

6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other Diseases

Fighting STDs and other diseases in many countries can determine how high the mortality rate is.

El Salvador

Uruguay
HIV prevalence (ages 15-49) is 0.6%.

Health expenditures is 6.78%.

Uruguay and El Salvador are very similar in this matter.

HIV prevalence (ages 15-49) is 0.7%.

Health expenditures is 8%.

El Salvador and Uruguay are very similar in this matter.

7. Ensure Environmental Sustainability

To leave posterity with well preserved environment.

El Salvador

El Salvador has 7.3% fresh water withdrawals.

Uruguay

El Salvador has 13.64% forest area.

Natural resource depletion of El Salvador is 0.46%.

El Salvador doesnt have as much land mass and gets a lot of rain thus
it has more fresh water resources.

Uruguay has 2.63% fresh water withdrawals.

Uruguay has 10.2% forest area.

Natural resource depletion of Uruguay is 0.55%.

Uruguay on the other hand has a larger land mass that could attribute
to less fresh water supply.

8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Gives country better ability to increase economy and International relationships.

El Salvador

Uruguay

El Salvador has an international trade of 74.85%.

Foreign direct investments of El Salvador is 1.07%.

Though the trade is higher but it mainly benefits the country trading
with El Salvador. The low investment makes it difficult for El Salvador
to expand and progress.

Uruguay has an international trade of 65.21%.

Foreign direct investments of Uruguay is 4.69%.

The international trade is lower but the investments are higher giving
Uruguay a better chance at expanding.

Summary
El Salvador and Uruguay are not that different when it
comes to the eight millennial development goals. Uruguay
scored a little higher in most of the goals, however El
Salvador exceeded Uruguay in other areas. Uruguay had a
much better economy and education system, whereas El
Salvador had more fresh water and a more sustainable
environment. Even though both Uruguay and El Salvador
wont reach their goals by 2015 they both have steadily
improved. As long as accountability is held they will
continue to improve in these goals for the future.
