LEARNING PROCESSES

Harvey improved his organisational skills as the

Teachers know about learning processes and how practicum progressed and used a variety of
to teach and implement

different mediums to engage year 10 students in

their poetry comparison assignment. He created a
class blog which he updated with lesson content and
other clips which helped students with the writing
process. This ensured students could access the
content from outside the classroom. In Year 7
English, Harvey used a variety of exercises to
build up the students' understanding of horror
story narrative construction, taking consideration
of the variety of skill levels and learning styles
within the class. He modified tasks as necessary
and repeated information explicitly to ensure
understanding.

LEARNING CONTENT

Harvey researched the poems studied and provided

Teachers know the content they teach

students with insight into each one, explicitly

teaching them how to analyse a poem. He also
presented portions of an award winning documentary
to the class to introduce them to the topic of
slavery and linked it to the Soccer World Cup in
Qatar.

consistent in following up students who had not
completed their work and emphasised the importance
of completing a draft. Harvey provided all students
with his email address and encouraged students to
submit work where he gave immediate and specific

strategies for successful learning experiences teacher. He improved his organisational skills and
time management as the practicum progressed. In
year 7 English Harvey consulted with the teacher
about effective practices in teaching horror
narrative, and incorporated these in his own
teaching. His work was well-planned and the
strategies he used were varied and built the skills
of the students over time.
FEEDBACK AND REPORTING

Harvey provided all students with his email address

Teachers assess and report learning outcomes

and encouraged students to submit work where he

gave immediate and specific feedback.Harvey marked
the poetry assignment he created which was aligned
with the Australian Curriculum and provided
students with feedback on their performance.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Harvey created a supportive and calm learning

Teachers create a safe, challenging and

environment. He became more of a presence in the

supportive environment

classroom over the course of the practicum and this

was a direct result of him listening to feedback
and ideas and putting them into practice. Harvey
improved his behaviour management as the practicum
wore on and he all but eliminated a lot of the
chatter that was happening in lessons during the
start of his time here.

Pre-service teacher: Comments

Firstly, I would like to thank the staff of Eastern Fleurieu School for allowing me the
opportunity to complete my professional experience at their campus. I would also like to
personally acknowledge the work of Adam, Kevin and Emma, who allowed me into their
classrooms, and provided me with invaluable feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed working with
each of you.
Being able to observe, and collaborate with multiple mentor teachers was extremely
satisfying. The experience provided me with a range of techniques and philosophies that
will prove valuable in the development of my own teaching philosophy.
Once again, I would like to thank the school, and all of its staff for making me feel
welcome during my placement.
