Preparing To Do Piaget Conservation Experiments

Experiment # 1
Name
Materials
Needed

Conservation of liquid

1) Two Same shape

glasses full of the same
amount of water.
2) One different shape of
glass.

Exact words I will say:

What I will do when I say these

words:

Can you look for these two

glasses, do you think that Show the child two same shapes of
they have the same
glasses full of the same amount of
amount of water?
water.
Okay, now I will going to
pour that glass into this
one

Pour one glass into other glass in

different shape.

Now, do you think that

this glass has more water
or this glass, or they are
having the same amount?

Show the child two different shapes

of glasses having the same amount
of water.

Why do you think they are

different?

Listen to the child answer without

saying anything.

Okay perfect.

Take away the materials that I

used.

Experiment # 2
Conservation of number
Name
Materials
Two rows Have the same number of coins. I
Needed
have used four (4)
coins.

Exact words I will say:

What I will do when I say

these words:

Does this row has more

coins, or this row has
more coins?

Show the child two rows having

the same number of coins.

Are they having the same

number of coins?

Show the child two rows having

the same number of coins.

Now, is this row has more

coins or this row has
more, or they has the
same number of coins?

Speared one row and make it

longer, while keep the other row
at the same position.

Why do you think they are

different?

Listen to the child answer quietly

Okay well done

Experiment # 3
Conservation of colors
Name
Materials
Needed
1) Two yellow balls
2) One brown ball
3) One orang ball

Exact words I will say:

What I will do when I say

these words:

How many balls do we

have?

Show the child three different

groups with different colors
mixing with each other.

Can we spear these balls

into different groups?

Mixing balls together.

Okay, how can we spear

these balls into different
groups?

Gives the child balls to spear it

into different groups.

Listen to the child answer quietly

Why do you spear balls on
this way?

Okay, perfect.

Pre-operational Stage REPORT 1

Name of child
age (3)
Gender (Male)
( Salem)
Name of experiment 1
Conservation of liquid

Describe the basic procedure of the task

First, show the childe two similar glasses having the
same amount of water and ask him if they are having
the same amount of water or no.
Second, I changed one glass with different shape but
with the same amount of water.
Third, I asked the child if they are having the same
amount and observe how he is thinking.

Describe the childs responses

When I put two same shape of glasses having the same
amount of water front the child he contained that they
have the same amount, but when I changed one of the
glasses with different shape and having the same
amount of water ,he contained that they had different
amount of water, because I changed the shape and he
think that on is more than the other because its bigger.

What do the childs responses signify?

The signify is the child is in pre-operational stage,
because he was able to express full concepts and he
has a strong intuition.

Pre-operational Stage Report 2

Name of child
Age
(3) Gender (Male)
(Salem)
Name of experiment 2
Conservation of
number

Describe the basic procedure of the task

First, I showed the child two rows having the same
number of coins and ask the childe if they are the same
or no.
Second, I speared coins on one row only
then ask the child again if they are having
the same number.
Third, I observe his thinking.

Describe the childs responses

When I show him two row having the same number he
realized that they are the same because he counted
them, but when I speared it he think that the one I
speared it have more coins, because its longer.

What do the childs responses signify?

The signify is the child is in pre-operational stage because
he was able to count and think before he give the answer.

Pre-operational Stage Report 3

Name of child
Age (3)
Gender (Male)
(Salem)
Name of experiment 3
Conservation of colors

Describe the basic procedure of the task

First, I showed the child different colors of balls mixing
together.
Second, I asked the child to speared
balls into different groups.

Describe the childs responses

The child speared balls into different groups by it colors
so, he put yellow balls together, brown together, and
orang together.

What do the childs responses signify?

The signify is the child is in pre-operational because he

was able to realized shapes and colors and he can put it
together because they are the same.
