Personal adult Learning Style Inventory.

Differences between adult and young learners.

Adult learners are independent, self-directed, goal oriented. They come

to the classroom knowing what they want to achieve, whereas young
learners depend on the teacher.
For young learners, learning is more of a social activity, and they ultimately
trust the teachers guidance.

There are 3 types of Learning Style.

1. Dominant Visual.
Visual Learners rebember visual details with ease and prefer to see what They
are learning. They learn best with visual materials such as pictures, charts,
ilustrated textbooks, and handouts. They like to use colorful highlighters to mark
notes and texts.

2. Dominant Auditory.
They like t oread aloud and often like to talk to themselves or create musical jingles
to help them new material. They rebember by talking out loud and They like to
have things explaned orally tan through written instructions. They like to have
music on while They study.

3. Dominant Kinesthetic/ Hands On.

They are explorers at heart and like to learn through active participation in what
They are learning. They like to stand, rather tan sit, when learning something new.
They like to move around when talking or listening. They need to take frequent
study breaks.

Learning Methods
1. Grammar-Translation.

Method

students learn grammatical rules and then apply those rules by translating
sentences between the target language and the native language.
2. Audio-lingualism. Method

The Audio-lingual Method was widely used in the 1950s and 1960s, and the
emphasis was not on the understanding of words, but rather on the acquisition of
structures and patterns in common everyday dialogue.
3. PPP.

Presentation- Practice- Production, It could be said that PPP is an effective way to

teach, since it makes planning easy and it can be implemented by relatively
inexperienced teachers. However, this is not the same as saying that it is an
effective way to learn.
4. TCL

Emphasizes the ability to communicate the meaning of the message, instead of

concentrating on grammatical perfection.
5. Task-Based Learning (TBL)
Approaches to structuring and planning and implementing lessons are more
effective. presents an overview of a task-based learning approach.

Group Dynamics
The interactions that influence the attitudes and behavior of people when
they are grouped with others.

Traditional Pedagogical Model.

1.
2.
3.
4.

The learner is a dependent personality.

The learner has little experience that can be used in the learning process.
Learners are told what to learn.
Learners only respond to external motivation.

Contemporary learning approach.

Adults are motivated to learn after they experience a need in their life situation. For
that reason, learning needs to be problem-focused or task-centered. Adults want to
apply what they have learned as quickly as possible. Learning activities need to be
clearly relevant to the needs of the adult.
