Although there were many advantages to exploration, there were also some
major disadvantages. The exploration changed the world forever. There were many
events that took place in order for this to occur.
Christopher Columbus found the new world. This was a positive thing but
there were some disadvantages. Many Native Americans were captured by those
settlers that lived in colonies and forced to work until death. This eventually took a
huge toll on the Native American population because many of them died due to
poor living conditions and little care.
The triangular trade route was also very big to the exploration. Many
Africans were captured and traveled through the middle passages and traded for
things like guns and other metals. They were then brought to America where they
were taken to plantations. They were forced to work in these poor living conditions
at the plantations. Many Africans died. Many people were angered by this much like
King Afonso (ruler of the Congo). He once said so great is our corruption that our
country is being completely depopulated). Benin was involved in the trade route
and this had a very negative affect. The population decreased and warfare
increased. Colonies also played a huge rule in mercantilism. This helped a nation
be more independent overall but the disadvantage was there were more dependent
on a large supply of things like gold and silver which is not a guarantee for money
and is not reliable.
The Spanish conquistadors caused many deaths all over the world with
various unfamiliar weapons. They even spread to Tenochtitlan where they
Montezuma. The deaths the conquistadors caused were a huge disadvantage, but
the spread of guns, canons, and steel swords were very useful for the Spanish
against the Aztecs. Ferdinand Magellan sailed from Spain to Asia. This was a
positive for the exploration. Unfortunately a disadvantage was Magellan and more
than half of the fleet was killed on the way.
Vasco Da Gama from Portugal sailed to India. This was also a big advantage
for exploration. The downfall of this was he and his men took control of the spice
trade from the Muslim people. They later sailed to Melaka. Once again, this was a
major advantage for Vasco Da Gama but a disadvantage for the Arabs because their
control of the spices was completely destroyed.
In conclusion, there were many advantages for many people from the
exploration. There was also a disadvantage for some with every advantage.
Needless to say, without the time of exploration, the world would be a completely
different world and all of these events set up the future.
