Hello, today I will be talking to you about Psychopathy.

What is psychopathy? Psychopathy is an anti-social personality disorder where

the effected individual has no conscience and an inability to feel remorse. ASPD,
according to the DSM-4-TR is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation
of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and
continues into adulthood.
How a psychopath becomes a psychopath. Psychopathy is largely related to the
conscience. Your conscience is formed by your Amygdala {a-meeg-da-la}, the
part of the brain the feels fears and remorse for others. By age 5 your conscience
is full formed. Factors such as genetics and your environment effect your psyche.

Unhealthy environments change the way children see or react to the world.
Conditions such as witnessing or enduring physical or sexual abuse, unsanitary
living space, neglect or isolation, absent or criminally involved parent or coming
from a disturbed family.

There are two types of psychopaths. Primary and secondary. Primary is the more
common but less known of the two. People with primary psychopathy are usually
not violent. Instead their character is formed of controlling and manipulative
behaviours, they have no fear or anxiety. These people live normal day to day
lives, for example high class business men. Secondary psychopathy is the more
known. These are the violent criminals. Mainly due to environmental factors.
Character traits of a psychopathic person. When you encounter one, they will at
first seem overly cooperative and friendly towards you. Meanwhile, they are
sizing you up, noting every detail; your physical, intellectual and moral
capabilities, while trying to lull you into a false sense of security Anonymous.
Charismatic and co-operative are the two main characteristics of psychopaths.
They are also assertive, controlling, do no procrastinate, in power, calm under
pressure, ruthless, fearless, mentally tough, persuasive or manipulative, violent
during youth and often impulsive.
Dr. Robert Hare is a psychopathy specialist and a researcher in the field of
criminal psychology. He wrote the Psychopathy Checklist in 1970 and the PCL-R
in 1985 based on Hervey M. Cleckley's "The Mask of Sanity" published 1941. This
has become the ideal way to test if someone is a psychopath and what variation
they might have. Check out his website for more information at hare.org.

Fun facts. The "Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version" is an adaptation of the PCLR for youth ages 1318. The Macdonald Triad, first described by John Macdonald

as possible indicators of psychopathy in children, involves three behaviours; bed

wetting, cruelty to animals and fire starting. 1 out of 10 Wall Street professionals
are psychopaths. Psychopathy is said to be untreatable.

Misconceptions. A psychopath is not a psychotic person. A psychopath is an

individual who has no conscience. A psychotic person (or psycho) is an individual
who does not know the difference between reality and fantasy. They are not the
same thing. Psychopaths and sociopaths are the same thing. This is a huge
misconception. The term sociopath refers to a psychopath whose disorder stems
from social neglect rather than genetics for physical factors.

All psychopaths are not sadists. Though it is common for secondary psychopaths
to commit sadistic acts during their murders it is not a characteristic of
psychopaths. All psychopaths are not murderers.

It is said that Assef, a character in Khaled Hosseinis novel The Kite Runner, is a
psychopath. This is very true. Assef says You don't know the meaning of the
word 'liberating' until you've done that, stood in a roomful of targets [the Hazara
people in Mazar-I-Sharif ], let the bullets fly, free of guilt and remorse, knowing
you are virtuous, good, and decent. Knowing you're doing God's work. It's
breathtaking. Assef admits that he has a lack of conscience or remorse about
massacring the Hazara people, but there are other things that proves he is a
psychopath.
He is power hungry, climbing to the top of the Taliban and asserting himself as
their leader. He is also charismatic, even as a boy showing great manners at
Amirs birthday party and fooling the adults around him. And most of all he is
sadistic as shown by his enjoyment in the rape of Hassan and the molestation of
children he buys from the orphanage including Hassans son Sohrab. All these
things prove Assef is a violent, secondary psychopath factored by the social
ignorance for Hazaras by his society.
Vlad the Impaler winter 1431 winter 1476 or 77. Vlad's full name was Vlad the
3rd Dracula, Romanian meaning son of dragon, as his father was part of the Order
of the Dragon. Vlad was the prince of Wallachia {wall-a-key-a}, now Romania. He
was known for his horrendous sadistic murders. He enjoyed disembowelment,
beheading, skinning and boiling people alive. It is said that he would roast
children in front of their mothers then cut of the womens breasts and make their
husbands eat them.
But most of all Vlad enjoyed impaling people with wooden stakes and leaving
them to bleed out. He is well known for the dinner parties he would hold where
he would drink the blood of his victims. All this lead to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel
Dracula.

Edward Gein August 27 1906-July 26 1984. Ed Gein lived with his extremely
religious mother in Plainfeild, Wisconsin. She taught him the sins of lust for a
women. After his mother died he began acting psychopathic. He dug up over 40
graves of recently buried women taking the parts he wanted. He murdered 2
women, Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden. Ed inspired Silence of the Lambs'
Buffalo Bill as he stated that he wanted to become a women and he was making
a woman suit. He also inspired Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface as he
made 9 masks of human faces.
After his arrest the police searched Gein's home and found; 4 noses, whole
human bones and fragments, skulls on his bedposts, a pair of lips on a drawstring
for a window shade, a lampshade made from the skin of a human face, bowls
made from human skulls, 10 female heads with the tops sawn off, human skin
covering several chair seats, 9 vaginas in a shoe box, and a belt made from
female human nipples. He was found guilty of first-degree murder and legally
insane and lived the rest of his live in Mendota Mental Health Institute.
Psychopathy in children is very rare but Beth Thomas was the exception. Beth (at
19 months old) and her little brother John (at 7 months old) were adopted in
1984 by Tim and Julie Thomas, a pastor and his wife. They thought they were
adopting two healthy children but they were wrong. The children had been
severely neglected and were very malnourished. Beth was abused physically and
sexually by her birth father. Due to this Beth was confused about the proper ways
to interact with others.
Beth began having nightmares of being molested by her birth father which but a
strain on her relationship with her adoptive father. Beth would molest her brother
and masturbate in public places without thinking twice. This young child has
killed birds with her bare hands, bash her brother's head off of the concrete floor
and would sneak into his room at night to beat him so viciously that her parents
were forced to lock her in her room at night.

Beth openly admits to trying to murder her brother on many times. Beth even hid
a knife under her pillow and intended to use it to kill her parents. This child did all
this before she was 6 years old. (VIDEO)

In 1989 she was sent to a facility who specializes in children who commit murder.
She responded effectively to psychotherapy and eventually was able to live a
normal life. Today Beth is a paediatric nurse and as healthy as ever.

I encourage you to check out Dr. Robert Hare's book "Without Conscience" and
watch Beth Thomas' story "Child of Rage" the film and documentary. Feel free to
ask me any questions. Thank you for watching.
