CMC Both sides victorious

Criteria: Positives/Negatives from each side, gains/losses, did it help defrost the cold war?
What/how did each side benefit from the end of the Cuba missile crisis?
At the height of the CMC, American airplanes spotted missile transporters and launch pads, but
the missiles could not but confirmed if they were there as well. The missiles were coming from
the USSR; after Cuba turned communist it was made one of the USSR's satellite states. With the
possibility of Cuba firing the missiles at America, JFK's advisors and officials were weighing
two main options, firing on Cuba first, and hope that they get all of the missiles, or blockade
Cuba to prevent the missiles getting into the country. When he decided on the second option, and
when he strong armed Russia into agreeing to pull out of Cuba, he not only saved from a massive
war erupting, but also put in place the 'red phone' into the oval office, directly connecting
president to the leader of the USSR. While many would view this as USA being the clear winner,
both sides started to whine down the tensions between the two, and shortly after signed a treaty
to minimalize nuclear testing and capacity of each country. While it was an extremely risky
move, JFK started to lead the USA and USSR relations in the better direction, which is why I
think both sides technically won.
