Question Bank
1. Why power amplifier is called a large signal amplifier? Explain it briefly.
2. What is the difference between the voltage amplifier and power amplifier?
3. How do you classify the power amplifiers? With the help of suitable sketches or
otherwise compare class-A, class-B and class-C amplifiers.
4. Explain the meaning of class-A, class-B and class-C as applied to power amplifiers.

5. With a neat circuit diagram explain the operation of series fed class A amplifier.

6. Show that the maximum collector efficiency of series fed class-A amplifier is 25% per
cent.
7. With a neat circuit diagram explain the operation of transformer coupled A amplifier.

ES

8. Show that the maximum collector efficiency of transformer coupled class-A amplifier
is 50% per cent.
9. Draw the configuration of push-pull amplifier and explain its working. Derive an
expression for its efficiency.

10. Show that the maximum collector efficiency of class-B amplifier is 78.6 per cent.

D

11. List the advantages and disadvantages of push-pull configuration in power amplifiers.
12. Derive the equation for conversion efficiency of class-B power amplifier.
13. Clearly explain the reason why most of the power amplifier used in practice is
designed to operate in class AB stage.

14. Discuss complementary -symmetry class-B amplifier and obtain its efficiency.

15. Discuss transformer coupled push pull class-B amplifier and obtain its efficiency.

AG

16. What is cross-over distortion? How it can be eliminated?

17. A Class B push pull amplifier operating with VCC = 25V provides a 22V peak signal
to an 8 load. Find Peak load current, dc current drawn from the supply, input power,

output power, efficiency and power dissipation.

18. For a Class B amplifier having a supply of VCC = 30V and driving a load of 16,
determine the maximum input power, output power and transistor dissipation.
19. An amplifier has an efficiency of 32% and a collector dissipation of 0.8W. calculate
d.c. power input and a.c. power output of the circuit.
20. What turns ratio transformer is needed to couple to an 8 load so that it appears as a
10k effective load.
