Regents, an
ineffective way?

For many years, students all

around the world have been
worry about one thing --exams, however, could
exams bring outstanding
talents to the world?

I dont think exams could
explore rare talents, because
China has demonstrated the
consequences of being an
exam-oriented education
country. Chinese students
are diligent but lacking
creativity, Jiang Xueqin,
writer of thediplomat.com,
states in his article.
Regents examinations could
be replaced by a more

10th grade global teacher

from Origins High School,
Sheena Vanathayan, states:
"Absolutely we should
remove the regents because
it limits the students ideas
and opinions."
Therefore, my suggestion for
our dear educators is let
regents gradually quit the
education, replace it with a
more effective way.
Such as our Principal of
Origins high school, John
Banks, says, I think if
students can do a high level
standard presentation in high
school as students do in
college, it would be better
than regents.
Let students create
presentation for their works,
capability of explaining their
arguments, opinions;
students can show their
creativity and make funny
presentations; isnt it better
than taking a boring test?
10th grade English teacher in
Origins High School, Kyle
Janosch, Regents is not the
best way to evaluate
students, but its not fair for
students came late to this

A college student in Boston

college, Duncan Asiedu,
states, regents cant
evaluate students, because
some students study only to
receive a 65 and fulfill their
graduation requirements.
When students have this type
of mindset, it's safe to say
that they do not properly
study for the exam so they
take the exam with little
knowledge and end up
having to repeat the course
and the process again.
Mr. Farrell, a ninth grade
English teacher in origins
high school, he doesnt feel
regent examinations is good
enough for students, either.
He gives me an example
during interviewing, I think I
should be teaching students
how to make a good claim or
interesting claim and how do
I defend it without just using
quotes from the book,
instead of using the best
evidence that I have and how
do I explain that evidence in
the way makes really hard for
anyone disagree with me.
Concluded, regents
examination should be
replaced by a more effective
evaluation method, even
replacing regents is hard, but
it could bring a huge change
to the world, it would make
the world better, therefore,

effective method of
evaluating because of
regents examinations are not
only evaluating students
inaccurately but also limiting
students mind.

Being a GOOD
and COOL
teacher
Who is this happy guy in the
picture? Every student might
knows him now. Yes, he is Mr.
Farrell, a crazy English teacher
in Origins high school, who
performed a wonderful guitar
show with Mr. Rizzo and Mr.
Elliott.
He is not only a wonderful
guitar player, but also an
excellent English teacher. He
thinks, as a teacher, he must

country.

Or they are not good at

making sure they have the
material all the time, we
need to help them with
that, so they are really
smart, they can show up
and say very inside of thing
but they lose their stuff
every day. If I want to
continue doing something
on Thursday but they lost
everything on Wednesday. If
I didnt get to know that
student, I might think that
they are lazy. When you get
to know that kid, you realize
they are trying but they
didnt put up the right
system to make sure they
have all the stuff.
I do think there should be a
ascertain and I think they
should be tested but I dont
think they should count for
as much as they could. I
think student should do
what we are trying to do in
origins which is more
roundtable, presenting your
project, talking about your
project. I think there should
be a place for test but I
dont think thats the only
way to measure whether
this student good or not.
Because I know a lot of

why not?

Thats Mr.Farrells thoughtful way to

educate his students and his students
love his teachings. Why? Because
when teachers try to understand their
students and care about them, students
would care about teachers, too. Love
that you have given to others, others
would give you back.

knows what do students need

and determination on what to
do.

students who are good at

test but they dont have the
real skills they need. I also
know a lot of students who
are terrible at test but
would be good at the world
of discussion.
