Update June 2015

Dear Parents:
It is almost the end of the school year
and this will be our last newsletter.
We have had a very busy and
eventful year and it has been great
working with your child. No doubt he
or she is excited to move to grade 5
next September. Time went by so
fast.
This month we will be having the 2nd
part of Jungle Sport and Young
Authors Day (English). Two coming
key events are The Charlie Chocolate
Factory Musical Show and the
Backyard Bash Day. The students are
excited about them.
During the holidays, we encourage
you to spend time with your child
doing things together. These are the
time they will cherish after they grow
up. Once they become teenagers,
they will probably prefer to hang with
their friends instead with you.
Encourage your child to read both in
English and French during the
holidays. Take them to their library so
that they can borrow books they like.
We wish you all a wonderful summer
holidays.

Languages
In French, students will continue
practicing oral communication and
writing. They will also make
speeches and debate on different
subjects to improve their
communication skills.
In English, students will share
good copies of their stories during
Young Authors Day. They will also
continue practicing their research
skills by learning more about
pulleys and gears, how to write jot
notes and write about facts using
their own ideas from different texts.
You can help at home by:
researching pulleys and gears and
visiting your local library for
resources.

Mathematics
This month, students will learn
about measurement with a focus on

Pulleys and Gears

Grade 4 students have been
broadening their understanding of
simple machines by looking at two
special kinds of wheels: pulleys and
gears and how they transfer motion
from one object to another, change the
speed and direction of an objects
motion, and change the amount of
force needed to move an object.
You can help at home by: taking your
child to the library, looking up
information on websites, reading and
talking about books on pulleys and
gears.

8 HABITS

Social Studies

We are reviewing our learning about

the 8 Habits of Highly Effective
People. This month our focus will
be on discussing all 8 Habits and
how they will help students to

mass, capacity and time. You can

help at home by: practicing to read

also following recipes and
discussing measurements

continue to build on their leadership

abilities. Each students goal is to
find his or her voice. Once he or she
does so, that student will be able to
have the inner confidence needed
to accomplish anything in life.

Students will be sharing their brochure

of a region in Canada with the class.
They will also be learning about the
different places and types of
governments that exist in Canada.
