a.m., at the Varsity Games the last Saturday in April. We will take as many participants as
can fit into our brackets/sign-up sheet at registration first come, first served.
CHECKERS: (Varsity Games event will start at 10:00 A.M.)
1.
The board will be place so that each player has a light square to his right.
2.
Black move first, then players move alternately. A player loses if he cannot play
in turn.
3.
Single men move only forward in dark diagonal, one square at a time. The
capturing move is a jump and may be made in a series in either forward direction.
When able to capture a player must do so.
4.
A man is crowned when he reaches his king row. The king has the same power as
a single man, plus the right to move backwards. Moves in both directions may be
combined in any series of jumps. If a single man reaches king row on a capture, it
must pause on turn to be crowned, then complete the series.
5.
The event official is present to observe only, and to solve any questions. The
players will govern the game and monitor fair play. An illegal move should be
pointed out by the opponent and a correction shall be made without loss of a
piece. A refusal to jump a piece pointed out by the opponent will result in losing
the game if an alternative jump cannot be found.
6.
Any individual not present at the start of this Varsity event will be disqualified
and not allowed to play.
7.
Additional rules will be provided by the event official at the start of this event.
CHESS: (Varsity Games event will start at 11:00 A.M.)

Event official will supply all equipment.

ONE ON ONE BASKETBALL: (Varsity Games event will start at 9:00 A.M.)
1.
District or council event official will determine seeding and player schedule.
2.
A flip of the coin determines which player receives the ball first. The ball is
received at the top of the key.
3.
After a basket, the ball is awarded to the other player at the top of the key.
4.
District or council event official will provide the referee.
5.
A game will consist of 5 minutes. The person with the highest score wins. 3 point
shot rule will be in effect.
6.
The ball must be cleared beyond the foul line, or to a distance of 15 feet on the
sides after an unsuccessful shot, unless the shooter rebounds his own shot. It is
not considered a shot, if the ball does not hit the rim of the basket.
7.
Regular fouls are called and each player is allowed a total of three fouls. Any
7

9.

foul beyond three allows the one on one rule to apply. All fouls committed while
shooting will be two shots. Intentional fouls, such as kicking, pushing, tackling,
etc. or fouls committed merely to gain offensive possession of the ball will be
called intentional, the fouled player will get two shots and retain possession of the
ball.
All violations, such as traveling, double dribble, palming and three second lane
violation, are called by the referee. A violation turns the ball over to the other
player who starts at the top of the key. Jump balls are handled on an alternate
basis, with the first tie-up being awarded to the player who lost the flip at the start
of the game.
Unsportsman like conduct may be called on the audience for throwing objects,
