From the President

A new number to call for reservations!! (216) 712- 4875. We

urge our Unit 19 members to call the reservation number. It
helps in many ways. It allows our officers and the facility to
cater to your needs. If you were unable or for some other reason
missed the State Association Meeting, you missed a great
program. This was your opportunity to visit with and listen to
National Officers and Representatives of those agencies that
provide many services to you and your family. The fine
luncheon was provided free of charge by the Moody Law Firm,
Designated Counsel for NARVRE. We appreciate it.
We are beginning the second half of the year. We urge each
member to attempt to bring a retiree or widow to the next
meeting. Ask them to join others who have a concern about their
annuity. It will benefit them and make you feel good too!!
Legislative Report.
Remember the statement: If the government is big enough to
give you everything you want it is big enough to take
everything you have. There is a great deal of truth in this
statement regardless of who made the original quote. It is for
this very reason NARVRE was formed. To Protect, Promote and
Preserve our Railroad Retirement Annuity. And there are those
in the Congress who still maintain a desire to take it from us. We
must continue in our efforts to maintain our rights under the law.
It continues to be our greatest need and we must band together
to maintain what we have earned over the years. Unit #19
Members are kept informed on the issues. Ties are mandatory if
we are to be successful in maintaining the level of excellence in
communicating with the Congress.

Your Unit 19 Officers keep working for you and yours.

Are the programs interesting at the NARVRE Unit 19 meetings? If not, let someone, especially
the Officers know about it. The Officers attempt to keep the meetings interesting and
informative. Maybe you know of a speaker (free) that has a message of value for our
membership. If so let us know about them; him or her.
We were really impressed with the fact three new people to the meetings came to the head table
and requested an application to join NARVRE. Two were recently retired and knew little about
their rights under the Act. They were impressed. We sincerely feel others would join if they just
had the chance to attend and participate, ask questions and get a response. Debatable or not, at
least they would be informed on the issues. We do have contacts and are able to respond to the
inquiries. That is important to a new member. There is nothing more dis-heartening than to ask a
question and no one knows the answer. If we do not know, we may obtain it from someone
whod know and may give the proper answer to a question.
Keep track of your interests.
The affairs of each NARVRE Member are personal to say the least. It is very important,
however, to keep your loved ones advised as to your desires and /or needs when the time comes.
We do not like to talk about it or even think about it but eventually that time will unfortunately
arrive. When it does, your family needs to know. Take the time to arrange your affairs. After all it
is your decision to make. And, generally speaking you will want these things done right.
