1.Apps in need of conversation - teachers are looking for approval


a. iBooks - Request made for the bookstore to be open for free booksOpen up the iBooks option. Students can have access to the free
books. (all 4-12th)
b. Remind - All students?-a way to send out announcements: Jill and
Ed already went over the terms and it is okay to enable.
c. Nearpod teacher app to create presentations with imbedded
formative assessments in it. Students can log in and follow along
with teacher given code. Teachers can download data from
Nearpod. Are we okay using Nearpod to house some of the data.
Teachers are creating a password to gain the access to the data.
d. Sketchbook Pro-can we push it out? No accounts attached.
e. Destiny Questrequested by the media specialists (save time by
looking up books in the classroom)
f. Campus high school (password protected)-student or family app to
get their grades.
g. Naiku web based, no app
h. Video Conferencing Option-ability to interview people in the field of
what their interests. Face timenot a good option? Can they do the
interviews on computers in the classroom? Parents need to be
aware of what students are doing with their video conferencing
options outside of the classroom. We are emptying the ocean with a
spoon! Can we open up Face Time and Google Hangouts for HS
only?
i. Spanish Apps (Fluencia-free trial and then pay: company houses the
data-students have to create the account) (Typically over 13 is fine)
(Duo lingo-free and you have to create an account)
j. App that allows for Flash Photon (4.99) or Puffin (free)-allows
textbooks to be seen on the iPad. It is not part of the OS, you have
to open the app and then the website.
k. Others from Summer Academy
Other appsBlogger is 13+ so set to 9-12.
Edmodo-Learning Management System (not a district supported
app)-possibly use it for 12 and under. More discussion to come on
this. Let them know that it is okay to explore, but know that we will
be exploring a LMS in the upcoming years.

google plus or an email account to get it. Under 13 has to be


supervised and provided guidance of a parent. (Supervised by the

them?) Providing the tech reps with 1 iPad. They can use one of
the spare minis at their building and get it set up. Think about
creative ways to distribute the extras with purpose.

COPPA-12 and under & FERPA-where data is housed-what is the access to the data?
What is the districts position on these?

Internet permission forms-cover the districts bases for some of the app
requirements.

Recommendation-Apple ID-students are either using a family ID or their own, but
they were advised to open a new ID with their collab account. Parents have the
choice if they want to attach a credit card or not.

Making policies to say that we cant do this but we can do that.

Learning management system (LMS)conversation needs to take place about this
to help parents, students, teachers, etc. get the same data and information.

Left the App store open. Teachers have to be more diligent about knowing what
apps can be used and what cant. Need to refer to the approved apps list. How can
we bring balance into the conversation. Educate teachers and students about using
it responsibility.

Situation of a stolen IPAD, found out about a week later. If that happens, and in this
situation, once it gets turned on again, the district server can find out the IP address.
The school needs to contact the police, here is the IP address, the IP address will
come from the carrier (frontier, charter, etc.). As a district we cannot access the
carrier, but can contact the police due to it being off site. The IP

Our district is very site basedculture shift for the whole district. In this new idea
of a district tool being placed in schoolswhat are the responsibilities of
administrators, teachers, staff, etc?? Where do we see the roles? Didnt anticipate
right away, but are having conversation around that now. Get to naturally have the
conversations about how to proceed.

When you think about COPPA and the Acceptable Use of Information Technology-
Student Agreement and Permission for Student Access and Use of the Internet, how
do they work together? How were the decisions made regarding students 12 and
under, and the use of 3rd party tools?

How do we prevent and/or respond to inappropriate use of 3rd party tools, such as
Snap Chat or Facebook?

In situations where students have done things at home, but on a school device, is it
subject to search?
