INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Turn all mobile phones OFF during the entire examination period. Any form of cheating will be strictly penalized.
2. Use only blue or black ink pen.
3. Other than your name, signature, and section, do not write anything on this questionnaire.
4. Make sure to write your name, signature, and section on every answer sheet; number the sheets consecutively.
5. Start the solution to each Problem on a new sheet; do not write at the back; and put a box on your final answer/s.
6. Show clearly all pertinent solutions and state the assumptions made, if any.
7. Submit this questionnaire together with your answer sheets; keep all sheets stapled together; otherwise your paper will NOT
be graded.

Part II. [20%] If System A and System B are equivalent systems, then find the values of F1, F2 and .
Each square box has an area of one square meter. Hint: Resolve System A first into a force-couple system at the center.

Part III. [20%] Bar ABC is supported by a pin at A and is connected to bar
BD with pins at B and at D as shown. If the vertical component of the
reaction at A is 15 kN, determine:

a) the value of the downward force P applied at C if the reaction at D
is to be minimum, and
b) the corresponding reaction at D.

Draw the FBD for your solution.

Part IV. [20%] Panda and his friends are pulling a 400-N crate up an incline surface as part of their daily training.
The coefficient of friction between the crate and the surface is 0.20 and the rope on which Panda and his friends are
pulling is horizontal.

a) Determine the force P that Panda and his friends must exert to start sliding the crate up the incline. Draw the
FBD for your solution.
b) If Panda lets go of the rope for a moment to take a snack, determine the minimum force his friends must exert
to keep the crate from sliding back down the incline. Draw the FBD for your solution.
