ELL students will use Quizlet to aid in memorizing new vocabulary. Upon demonstrating Quizlet software to students,
this will be a student self-paced vocabulary learning lesson plan. Vocabulary word list will be coordinated with each
students English Language Arts teacher. Words will be broken up for English language learners levels 1-2, 3-4, and 56. The language domains addressed are reading and speaking. Students can first read the words aloud or to
themselves, then the definition. Vocabulary drilling will be for about 30 minutes a couple times per week, with ESOL
teacher monitoring and assistance, as needed. The cognitive functions per Blooms Taxonomy necessary to use
Quizlet for learning vocabulary are remembering and understanding. Students will conduct this lesson in English. ELLs
level 1-3 may translate to native language to improve comprehension. Quizlet provides sensory support through the
audio option for the vocabulary word to be read aloud. As an instructional program Quizlet provides interactive
support, and there is ability of native language support. Students will use Quizlets informal self-assessment during
the last five minutes of the lesson plan to evaluate their progress. A formal, multiple-choice vocabulary assessment
will take place in each students content area classroom.
