way that she splits the image/ video on to so many screens and I believe
this just shows and empathises just how life can so in so many ways and
so connects to the title of the piece, Hermitos Children, because as
children your life can change course so easily and you can end up doing
something that you would never have thought you would have. I also like
the way that you are given bean bags to sit on while you watch, this helps
the audience to relax more I believe and so there attention is more on the
work then on how there legs are starting to feel standing up watching it
for a prolonged amount of time. I do not like the idea of having to watch it
with headphones though but without being there physically to look at it I
would not know if it helps add to the piece having headphones or not.
Her pieces celebrate occasions in cultural history that exemplify extremist
behaviour and belief. She is best known for her reworkings of iconic
moments from cultural history in deliberately amateurish and
improvisatory performances. She likes to make her works stand out from
the rest and she is not afraid to do so.
Fiona Tan
She is an installation artist who is best known for her photography ,film and
video installations. She had taken part in many installations over the years, I
find that her installations look at the emotions that the images can create, for
example one of her pieces called rise and fall consists of two screens set up next
to one another playing two different videos, what is on the screens seems to
change subject not and again and so you constantly find yourself thinking
about what connects them to one another and to you as the audience. I found that
when I was watching the videos I was constantly thinking of all the ways that
the videos could possibly be connected and I found that once I had found a
connection the videos seem to change and a never ending circle of thought
seemed to follow throughout the performance. This one I think made you think a lot
more about the meaning of the piece then some others may do, she has hidden the
meaning of the installation and only by watching it can you work out what
you believe it to be, many other installations have their meaning more
easily available/ it is easier to work out. I think that at first the audience
for this particular installation would be very confused but as the show
went on I am sure that they would have been able to better understand
it. Te audience for this one I believe would be young adults to adults, this
particular installation needs an older target audience just because of how
much it makes you think and how little you can interact with it, the more
you can interact with it the more people who are of a younger age would
want to typically pay attention to it.
The audience for Fiona tans pieces I think would be people of a slightly
older age, in their 30s and above, because the works have so much
meaning that you have to think about, i also think that it would have a
higher class rating of about class A, Band C.I think that the audience
for Vito Acconci would be people of an older generation, this is because
how old the installation is and I can see this very low teak not as visually
pleasing installations would better fit the generation that would remember
him and his works, I would say the elder section of the social class of E.I
think that the last installation artist, Spartacus Chetwynds work would
appeal to a wider more broad audience this is because her themes about
what the installation is about is more fluent than the others so the
younger generations would be able to work out the meaning as well. I
would say that most social groups would want to watch this installation.
Their work has been an inspiration to nine because of the technology that
theyve used. With Matt I feel with his work that with his multiple screens
and projectors, that this was definitely an influence on me. It allows me to
show off a lot more work and therefore this also allows the audience to
see my work on bigger and better platforms. With Spartacus the work
they use is more split screen. I havent really used this through any of my
productions, but it is definitely a clever was of getting your work across to
the public. Fiona tries to link her work together, and I mentioned how I
was thinking about this all the way through. Working in a pair with
Cameron means that work space has to be shared, so linking our work
together is almost a necessity. Our animation, music videos, Radio dramas
and FMPs are all on their own device and on loop. My inspiration for this
definitely came from Fiona, but it also makes sense to put your exhibition
on display in such a way.
